VIDEO: The worst Rugby League blunder ever?

Given all the hype and attention surrounding Wembley at the weekend, it was easy to forget that the Super 8s and the Championship Shield continued on Bank Holiday Monday.

And without doubt the most bizarre and biggest talking point came at Featherstone’s BigFellas Stadium, as Fev snatched a win against West Yorkshire rivals Batley in the most unimaginable way possible.

Rovers scored four tries in the final six minutes to beat the Bulldogs – but only after Shaun Ainscough made a huge error to enable Rovers to win. Ainscough, after the final hooter had sounded, attempted to kick the ball over the sideline to bring an end to the game with Batley winning 26-22.

But instead of finding touch, the ball took a lucky bounce for Fev, and landed into the arms of Will Sharp, who raced home to make it 26-26.

To make matters worse for Batley, Paul Sykes nailed the goal from the touchline to hand Rovers a home semi-final in the Championship Shield.
