We’re within the salary cap, says defiant Koukash

Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash insists the club are spending within the salary cap regulations, and the club are now only willing to pay what players are worth – something they did not do last year.

2015 will see a host of new stars play for the Red Devils, as the club again invested heavily in player recruitment to try and force their way into the upper echelons of Super League. Names such as Michael Dobson and Ben Jones-Bishop have signed, as well as a clutch of younger stars from the Championships.

And Koukash has insisted that there are no rules being broken with their spending, and the club are doing everything above board in terms of their financial spend.

‘‘We are absolutely within the salary cap and I am very happy with our recruitment,” Koukash told the Manchester Evening News.

‘‘We have a great squad and increased competition for starting places. There has been a big turnover of players from the squad who started last year. This has helped.

‘‘We no longer pay more than what players are worth. We might have done this is 2014 but not this time.
