Thurston relishing Rhinos clash

Playing in the World Club Series will tick off one of the last career goals for Johnathan Thurston.

Thurston has told the media that the World Club Challenge is one of the remaining boxes he still has to tick in his career, which is why he decided not to play in the Indigenous All Stars match on Saturday.

“It’s right up there with the rest of the achievements,” Thurston told the Brisbane Courier Mail.

“That’s why I’ve made the decision to stay with the Cowboys this week. It’s on the bucket list. It’s one I want to tick off, that’s for sure.

“Spending time with the boys over there and preparing in different conditions, everyone’s looking forward to it and we’re excited. It’s an opportunity that doesn’t come around very often.”

Thurston is wary of underestimating the Rhinos, however. “I understand Leeds have been at the top of their game over there for a number of years now,” he said.

“To have the opportunity to go over there and play against the best is something I’m really looking forward to.”
