ENTRIES are being invited for the 2017 BARLA Xamax National Cup, which is scheduled to get
underway on Saturday 7 January and climax in a final on Saturday 27 May.
BARLA bosses hope that more teams in the Kingstone Press Cider National Conference
League will emulate Thornhill Trojans, who won last season’s competition.
Myton Warriors, meanwhile, were runners-up in 2016, while Egremont Rangers took
the trophy 12 months earlier.
The Association is also targeting teams from beyond the traditional northern
heartlands for inclusion and Media Manager Steve Manning said: “The opening three rounds
take place before the summer leagues commence and the three latter rounds are being played
on Bank Holiday Saturdays, which assist the club coffers of those competing clubs drawn at
home at those stages.
“We have worked hard to cause minimal disruption to all playing leagues during
their respective winter and summer seasons, while alternative dates are in place for
amateur sides involved in the early rounds of the Challenge Cup.”
He continued: “Clubs can enter via their District Leagues or through the BARLA
Secretary with an entry form available for download on the BARLA website.
“Entry, for those clubs who are part of the BARLA Membership Scheme which was
launched in October, is free and for non-members is £15; the membership scheme is still
open to all clubs and all District Leagues and playing leagues.
The closing date for entries is Thursday 17 December.
