Cunningham pours cold water on Burns departure rumours

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has insisted that half-back Travis Burns is not leaving the club, after reports linking him with a move away from Langtree Park.

Media reports had linked Burns with a move to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats – a rumour that was put to bed by the Wakefield chairman Michael Carter yesterday (Wednesday).

And Cunningham also said that the Aussie is going nowhere – particularly with such a busy period in the Saints’ calendar looming large on the horizon.

“A short term loan doesn’t really interest us,” he told the St Helens star.

“There’s no benefit in it as far as we are concerned and it would be foolish if we shipped out any players at this stage of the campaign with a busy Easter period coming up.

“Down the track, Travis will feature on numerous occasions but it might not be in the half-back role.

“At this moment in time he is doing a good job supporting hooker James Roby.”
