Yep, Gillam's work rate in attack and defence last season was excellent and his second phase offloads got Barrow on the front foot.
He's more than worthy of a starting position.

2 new signings this week, 1st one announced tomorrow.
Just read this on fb. I'm guessing one could be Ellis Archer from St Helens?

Andrew Bulman has just been released from Whitehaven. He could possibly be a useful addition to the squad.

Just my opinion, the Championship is an extremely tough and challenging league and for a Championship team looking to compete the same standards and be at the same level as last season I still think we're low on numbers and still require key players in key areas.

Is there any further update on Anton?
With Tee and Forster recently departing I feel like the team is fairly depleted from last seasons squad.
I feel like we still need some key signings in key positions to compete this up and coming season.

Ryan Johnston has signed on for another season.
I thought the influence of Sammut has massively improved Ryan's game and he had a great season last year.
Well done the BOD for retaining his services.

Watching this world cup, I wonder what players are on the market as some of these games have been class.
I too noticed Ben Evans coming off with what appeared to be a neck injury.

Feeling optimistic England by 14!!

Does anyone have a rough idea which teams will be what grade?

Unknowing to yourself you have uncovered the conundrum of the Championship - If a team wants SL you must recruit a team in the Championship that can go up with you, otherwise you will have little chance from the leftovers to stay up. Average age of the Leigh team was mid 20's with their prime ahead of them, we are now going up with a youngish squad that know each other and have recruited some unbelievable new boys to add to it. Lam as a man has been instrumental in some of what we have already signed on the back of players wanting to be a part of the fantastic atmosphere around the club.
The facts are that if you are cashed and ambitious then you will be FT in the Championship, but you wont find a squad of SL ready young players in the UK. The challenge is for the PT clubs not cashed and not able to make the transition to SL - this is why FT clubs must be ring fenced with other FT clubs, not by diluting ambition to make an even field for the second tier that would kill that ambition for ever.
I hear ya Sweaty and completely understand.

Those players were on 1 year deals so would have had the same uncertainty as any other player in the league with a 1 year deal. Would you say the same about any of the players on 1 year deals at Barrow?
LeytherRob,
A one year deal with Barrow on the pretence of being suitable for a further deal would most definitely be different than a one year deal of winning a league with Leigh and having no further future at the club pal.
Sorry not even remotely similar.

Because it´s a massive oversight and noone thought a champ club would have 1.2 million to smash onto the wage bill. Hope we get that loophole closed pronto. Same rules across all divisions on foreign players and a salary cap suited to what is a part time league.
Bang on Shropshire Bull.
If anyone had followed the Championship from the start will see how ridiculous the competition ended where Leigh is concerned as they have been allowed to bring in whoever they want to win.
What surprised me more is no-one from the governing body monitored the amount of oversea players they used?? Or set a reasonable quota in the Championship or other leagues. Using a high amount of oversea players has led to teams being pummelled by 50 - 60 points and in one case 100 points!!
It appears double standards are used where SL have a system in place for foreign players and other leagues are left to do whatever!! This years Championship has been pretty pointless where competitions go.
What will happen to those players who are being released by Leigh? I wonder those players knew potentially what their fate is on winning and again personally this has made a mockery of our sport.

He bought the Championship so he might as well try and buy the SL or CC.
He just needs to now invest in half a team as the other half isn't eligible to play in SL.

I agree with everyone else's comments. Watched these two briefly last season and looked good for Barrow.
Well done to the BOD and Co and welcome to the team lads.
On the subject of new signings, any updates on a particular centre who played for Fax last season who is rumoured to be signing for us?

Tough game at Craven Park with Barrow falling short going through to the next round.
Barrow 8 - Batley 18.
Best of luck to Batley in the next round.

Signed up for 2023 so far :-
Brooks, Jake Carter, Creswell, Evans, Forster, Langtree, Ritson (barring any SL transfer), Sammut, Shaw, Stack, Toal brothers, Wood.
Add Ellis Gillam to the list as he has signed on for another season!! He too has been outstanding for us this season.
Again well done the BOD and all concerned.

Most Batley fan's I've spoken to are happy with the away draw as the Bulldogs away form is far superior than home
To be fair you beat us at Craven Park. Just hope now that your last game against Leigh has taken a bit out of the tank.

I personally think that last week result for both Barrow and Batley to determine which team has the home advantage will determine this week result.
Barrow home, Barrow win.
