Basically the lower division Yorkshire based clubs were slower to switch to Northern Union than the Lancashire based ones. This is in large part due to the split from rugby union being for different reasons either side of the Pennines. West of the Pennines the split was primarily due to professionalism and there were close ties between elite clubs and those in lower divisions. In Yorkshire a major factor was the top division clubs wanting a closed shop league, whilst the RFU wanted to introduce promotion and relegation.
In short there may have been local competitions but there was no second competition that season.
I do have the York club details from 1898-99 season on going not all the away teams but quite a lot of them and of course results and scorers both sides

Good call! Wikipedia has it that the RL club were the original owners.

I have a problem with the wiki article in that it say it was built for rugby league in 1901 which does not tally with stuff I have in which I have a photo of rugby been played there on 1895 and an article saying it was donated by the Sykes family in 1891

he is a wakey fan so maybe theres a hidden agenda there for mr sadler !!!
-
as always its about money and power
-
well they only need one more club to stay this time . wonder which club is most likely to break from the rebels ?
-
ask simmo he has the answer for most things
I rely on his judgements and live my life by them .
right just off to throw myself under a train
-
why not a season off and play meaningless friendlys then put the names in a hat to decide a league table then turn it upside down and shake it a bit and then its totally fair to everone .
well apart from wigan I suppose
-
thought it would be obvious that he revived the thread trying to get people to exchange rl dvds I would have thought he is a collector of rl dvds as there are quite a number of us out there
-
yep Huddersfield v wigan march 1981 it was on rl action .
lewis jones was the guest that day and he was not happy with wigans style of thuggery
tony Johnson of Huddersfield was targeted in particular by wigan
watched it again last week
-
I have loads of the old scumdown and rl action games I put them on dvd as they were taking up to much room with all the videos piled up in the back bedroom also got hold of loads of old videos from the 80s which im still transferring to dvd as and when I get the time loads of club videos as well with such baised commentors you have to laugh . some cracking games from an era when the refs were in charge not the match commisoners and an army of other oddbods on inflated wages to slow the gasme down and sanatised it
-
Keith Macklin and David Watkins. Went to the old Fartown few times.
if you watch the full rl action programme this has come from i think you will find that lewis jones was at huddersfield that day not david watkins.
it was lewis jones first game of 2nd division rl that he had watched and i dont think he was impressed.
still it was a good game so much better than the touch and pass we see on sky these days.
makes you wonder how todays forwards would have suvived back then.

mate this keyboard warrior gets of his ###### every week during the season and goes to watch his team, as long as i have been watching rugby league leeds have always been the masters of the cheap shot, from syd hines and co up to todays team...............what a shame great players like shoebottom and holmes played for such a detestable club.
hoho seems to me we have a guy who supported a team that tasted glory for a few years and then shrank back to the rightful place in the lower ranks were it is to be hoped they stay.
lets hope that halifax claim the super league place up for grabs next time .
by the way i think your refering to syd hynes who certainly never hid when the going got tough and given he never weighed more than 11st always seemed to tough for widnes to handle even when there much vaunted thug forwards were at there peak .
-
now to ensure its someone other than one of the top 3 sides winning the grand final lets hope for huddersfield v leeds 4th v 5th would be ideal.
of course there may be a few empty seats but what price can you put on history been made .
-
what no Ryan Bailey .
must be a mistake
-
a wonderful thing was the 3 man panel that decided buderus deserved a 1 match ban in effect next weeks game against wigan had 2 exwigan players on it so he got a 1 match ban.
on appeal the 3 man panel had no exwigan players on it but had 1 exleeds player on it result no ban.
all seems perfectly fair to me.

sure is good stuff. i have to dvds of games between halifax and vichy played a couple of years back which were pretty suprising when i saw them .
the best bit is one of the vichy team jumps out of the wheelchair to pick a team mate up . seemed a bit to agile to be in a wheelchair

On the RFLs Facebook page, they've posted a well put together 5 minute Wheelchair Rugby League video, well worth a watch if you've missed it.
I've heard and read plenty about it and as it turns out used to stand next to the England Coach at Central Park back in the day, but until today had never seen any match footage.
Its pretty brutal stuff, every credit to those that play.
Edit
Sorry for those not on facebook,

yet again we reach the bit people dont understand so let me explain.
this weekend wigan beat leeds . after that leeds get there ***** in gear and go to old trafford were they soundly thrash st helens and win the title yet again.
why complicate something that happens every year.
-
money money money itd a rich mans game
-
Just been watching your game from last night and I beg to differ.
beg all you like you know come the end of season playoffs its LEEDS you all want to avoid at all costs.
lets face it leeds will be fresh and up for it as they sure as hell cant have reached there peak yet . at least i hope not. .
the same goes for ST HELENS the rst of you are just pretending if you think its going to be anything other than LEED v SAINTS at old trafford

was there not a thread on here earlier this year about buderus going back to australia ?
seems to have the same ring of truth as that one had.
-
will they let him in australia ?
. i mean with that ginger hair he could cause problems given that ginger people tend to be a bit undisiplined and of course his bulk would cause problems on the plane over .
at least he wont need to take both parents with him i suppose.
