  1. Off back to England in the morning with my next door neighbour here in the deep south. It will be the third time in the UK for him following two previous visits (a rugby tour when he was a lad, and a coach trip to Wembley a couple of years ago). First time in an aeroplane for him.

He is absolutely bricking it. A combination of the flight (about which I have a great deal of sympathy) and English food (about which I have less). He goes on and on about his Wembley experience when according to him he was served an eclair with a sausage in it. I had to explain the concept of the sausage roll.

Looking forward to taking him for a ruby over the weekend!

  2. Don't mind who wins.....

Hoping for a fine evening weather wise for some top of the ground, crisp handling rugby.

Looking forward to seeing a good open game. Both sides like to move the ball about a bit and if we get an untypical, non grinding final then I will be more than happy. I've only seen Sam Tomkins on the telly before so looking forward to seeing him in the broader, live perspective from full back. I also hope that one of the unsung heroes in Coley has a good game and that Cunningham brings down the curtain on his career with some aplomb.

Not been to a big RL occasion like this since the 1995 world cup final so I'm all breath bated.

    May the best team win.

  3. I had to google that, well, the 'veau' bit. While that's not something I'm squeemish of, the below quote also attributes not eating red meat for the time being.

Ta. My best stab at advice is available to anyone who may want it.

On a special diet mate which appears to preclude anything healthy! Dream ticket as my brother put it.... Veau I think is classed as a white meat if you are still feeling adventurous. Rather you than me though.

  4. I've spent today painting.

A couple of water colours and a study in oils?

No, a complete splattering of the walls and ceilings of a corridor, netty, and changing area for my sausage factory.

I am currently organising a sausage tasting for the English Speaking Ladies Society, the Scottish Society, and the English Church of Limoux Gentlemen's Brunch.

Have there ever been so many euphemisms in one sentence?

  5. Foie gras.

    I've just decided.

Always leaves me a touch bilious. A little goes an awfully long way.

Just necked a Royale pizza (tomato, cheese, mushrooms and ham) cooked au feu de bois with an egg on top. Worked an absolute treat.

If you wish to meet the chef he will be at the Grand Final meet up in Manchester - he'll be the bloke looking terrified about British cuisine.

Come on over France side Hindle XIII and we'll do you a tete de veau :O

  6. If you've not watched women's rugby of either code, go out and find a game. As long as you're not watching the really lowest level, you'll most likely see a game with the skills of the men's game but without the cynicism, cheating and egos of the men's game. Alternatively, find a women's university game and you won't notice the sport at all but will feel like a dirty old man :D

I used to coach a women's university rugby union team in the mid eighties. Happy days... B)

  7. This is the 3rd profitable year out of 4, the only blot being the year we incurred the legal costs and compensation payment over the Ged Stokes issue.

The board are doing a great job off the field, we just need to find the key on the field now and in my opinion the current way of an all local squad augmented by 2 quality overseas players is the way to go for clubs like Town.

    Amen. Great news.

  8. I suppose in some ways it is akin to the experiences at Whitehaven in recent seasons, when they had some cracking local lads supplemented by some decent pros, a good number of whom had very good jobs in local industry (for example BNFL). Part time rugby + full time (with flexible working) regular job = a good living in a great part of the world. Apologies if this is not current....

Here in France a good rugby player can play part time for his local club and frequently get a gig at the local council or local benefactors (several examples at Carcassonne, Limoux, and in particular in this coming season at Pia) with all the benefits in the long term that that can provide. It is a big step for them to cut the ties with such employment and chance their arm in the Championship (where there may well be a pay cut even for the rugby never mind probably losing the day job), and even in super league where the vagaries of an unstable rugby management doesn' necessarily inspire confidence for giving youth a chance.

Some of the young players that I have seen in Toulouse colours inspire some confidence in the future. But, as I was hearing tonight on BBC Humberside coverage, the French sides like any others are crying out for young talented halves. If only Murcia (the Limoux half who has a rugby brain second to none) had some pace....

    Apologies for rambling....
