  1. I must admit I have only read the last page of this thread so I'm unsure if anyone else has already mentioned this but Peter Gentle gets sacked on the back of Hull FC shipping 76 points last week and to remedy that they appoint the man who was the defensive coach when they shipped those 76 points as head coach. Great decision that ;-)

  2. You can hear the linesman say he thought it was late, and Alibert said he thought it was fine - as it was a crucial stage, he rightly asked the VR to have a check. The VR then made the decision that Donald had tackled Richards late. I agree with you that it was a harsh call, and the slow-mo replays don't help with these calls.

Whether we agree with it or not, the call was that Donald's tackle was late, and based on that decision, the penalty was in exactly the right position (right down to Alibert making Richards move a metre back at the last second).

You always give whatever is the greatest advantage to the non offending team. In this case the penalty was given for the second offence. The reason play was not stopped at the time was because advantage has to be allowed to see if an advantage is gained by the non offending team. You can also hear Thierry asking the VR for clarification, which according to the protocols we all work by and agreed by the SL coaches he is entirely at that point entitled to do.

As for SteveiM13's comment about the sin bin for Crusaders robbing them of a player, the rules are plain and simple that any delay of the 20m restart is an automatic sin bin.

Bentham did not send Manu off as it was not a sending off offence as has been shown by the video review panel. He did not sin bin Peter Fox because contrary to popular belief slowing down the ptb is not an automatic sin bin and there is no such thing as a "professional foul", it's another myth put about by tv commentators. The penalty was the correct decision. There are only 2 occasions when an automatic sin bin is allowed and that is a deliberate delay to a 20m restart as in the case of the Crusaders and a late challenge on the kicker.

Sorry, but can't remember the particular Tomkins incident you are talking about so can't possibly comment.

  3. All the coaches whinge at Stuart. It's part of the job, and it's his job to politrely tell them to bog off. Most of them don't make it public. probably because a lot of the time they don't have a case and look stupid.

Just making the point that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones Tim.

  4. Why? The RFL has set up an independent disciplinary committee and has an appeals process that is legally correct and is accepted by the constituent clubs.

The Referee and TJ have seen an incident at the time and acted on what they saw - Bailey's contact with Radford is obviously up for debate even with the hindsight of video replay. Radford clearly punched Bailey several times, which is a red card offence. Not too much wrong with what happened on the field, hence what's it got to do with Stuart Cummings?

Obviously the second panel who reviewed tha appeal differed from the first panel. This is a consequence of the independent process and also happens in our law courts.

In fact Tim, what's it got to do with the Match Officials department at all once the game has finished and the report of the incident has been made. The average rugby league fan has no comprehension of the fact that the match review panel and then disciplinary panel has absolutely nothing to do wth the match officials department and just try to use this lack of understanding as a stick to beat the department with and in doing so show their own prejudices and maybe even stupidity.

  5. Sally knows what shes on about. she wouldnt be touchjudging semi if she didnt.

    ;)

The thing that really annoys me is people claiming that as a TJ I am not doing my job correctly when they don't actually know what my job entails or what I should be doing.

As for this whole forward pass thing, I really can't say that I've studied the Leeds try in the cup final that closely to be able to say one way or the other however one thing is certain, the touch judge will not have been looking at how the ball travels across the ground as that is irrelevant, he will have been looking at the direction of the hands passing the ball as the passing players obligation is to pass the ball backwards and the laws state:

"The direction of a pass is relative to the player making it and

not to the actual path relative to the ground. A player running

    towards his opponents

  6. Ok, we have a fair few points to say about the ref's in our game; but what about the linesmen?

They miss tons, even when they are on the spot; foot on the whitewash, knock on's, groundings, forward passes, hand in at the play the ball, off sides and half the tw@'s glance at each other before making the bold decision to raise their flag to confirm the 2 point conversion award.

So, how do we improve the quality of the linesmen in our beloved game? pension them off?

    Over to you.

This is a rugby league forum and as such we discuss rugby league matters. We do not have linesmen, we have touch judges.

That being the case exactly how do you judge if they have missed something as you claim?

  7. The trend clearly has to be most important here.

The average won't give you an idea of the future crowds, but the trends certainly will, and they don't look good.

Maybe so but to include the Neath matches in that trend would be at best short sighted. There are also other trends to take into account like the fact that the gates for Friday and Saturday evening are much better than those for Sunday afternoons and have been all through the season.

  8. I am sick to death of the RFL and the way it has ruined the game I love. Why would I pay 15 Pounds to watch a series of Friendlies where the best team is never allowed to get promoted? My team are not allowed to run a scholarship or an Academy according to the RFL-neither are any of the Championship Clubs! I see no future for my team despite maybe being very successful. The RFL just want a closed shop with Expansion teams with no structure over clubs that have been going decades. Sod it why should I waste thousand of pounds on a sport, that basically is now pointless. I will watch the NRL instead and watch the Professional game outside SL die. And I know dozens of people from various clubs have the same feeling. But the SL fans on here will say good riddance or whatever. All they care about is there club not the game as a whole.

Don't you think that is just a tad hypocritical? You won't watch the SL because there is no promotion or relegation and yet you will watch the NRL where there is NO promotion and relegation. Personally I'm sick to death of hypocritical numpties but maybe that's just me.

  9. I may not have been on a course but I've officiated a number of games of Rugby League and loved every minute of the experience.

As for who the best referee is in Super League then Ian Smith wins it hands down.

He always let's the game flow and gives minimal penalties, only when it's absolutely necessary to blow up for one.

The rest don't even come close.

Your now is growing again Mick. it's gone from one alleged schools game to several now has it? I know for a fact that you have never picked up a whistle in the middle of a game. You do know that it doesn't become true the more you say it and the more you exagerate it don't you.

  10. In that vein then-MICK GLEDHILL, after all he's always an expert on refs performances.

Nah, in order to become a ref you have to qualify and the first step is to take a course. Mick has never done this despite several invitations. I have and actually go out and do the job, not just talk about it.

  11. I assume it will be the first game of the season, why else would they move it to February? Although this is the RFL, who don't have a very good track record of event organising and management!

I'd assume the first weekend of February (5th/6th).

Don't bother making that assumption as Wales play England in Cardiff on the 4th. It is going to be either the following weekend or the one after that. Wales don't have another home game until March.

  12. If it's correct then sounds like a good idea to me. Great way to start the season off. One thing is for sure, it won't be the first weekend in February as Wales are playing England at home. Fingers crossed it isn't the 2nd one as that's Valentines weekend. For me it's fingers crossed for the last weekend in January but purely for personal reasons. Just hope they get on and make the official announcement so that we can start making arrangements. With a bit of luck accommodation will be cheaper at that time of the year and all you have to do is wrap up more warmly. Not too difficult that is it. ;)
