Looks likes Matai will be out for at least some of the tournament after his effort yesterday.
Steve Matai has been suspended for seven games.

There goes his Four Nations!

I was told by someone in the know that Paea has signed. Watch him this weekend play for Roosters.
Also Scott Dureau is starting scrum half for Newcastle Knights.
Paea's signing has now been officially confirmed. (Take note RP).
Ben Farrar's signing is imminent.
It turns out that Farrar is an old mate of Scott Dureau, the new half back.

Give it up.

No. The two English stars were candidates for best second rower.

Unfortunately both of the two famous Englishmen missed out on winning any of the Dally M awards tonight. However one of St Helens' favourite sons did win a medal:

tony williams finishing this year has been superb when i've seen him and i'd go for him!
there's also inu, locke and talanoa in that squad going for a wing spot so theres going to be some tough decisions!!!
Inu is a poor defender. The Bulldogs are releasing him I heard.
Locke and Talanoa are both very good, but Nightingale and Williams are better.
The Kiwis really have strength in depth. The Aussies are really going to be challenged.
How can England compete with either of them given the weakness of the English three quarter line?
-
It will be impossible to replace Orford with someone of comparable quality. Quality scrum halves are as scarce as hen's teeth. When Catalans went looking they came up with a Newcastle reserve half, Scott Dureau.
-
Canberra fans are excited about the prospects of having Matt Orford there.

I would like to know what the dispute is between Orford and Bradford.
Well, it may well be to do with the following pictures. -
But some of the Bradford faithful just could not face the awful truth:
So on the one hand we have idle newspaper speculation in Aus, and on the other we have a direct quote from the chairman of the club Ox is contracted to. Just done a bit of digging, and I've found this quote from the man himself.Couple that with the fact he tried to play on, and did play in the CC game against Wire, with three muscle tears in his shoulder and a dislocation, and it looks to me that he has a lot of pride in playing for the Bulls.
-
If I was a Kiwi selector I would have a very tough time deciding on one wing spot, between Jason Nightingale and Tony " T Rex" Williams. The latter, when paired with Manu Vatuvei, would create nightmares for the Aussie backline defence.
-
I love the name "Sika Manu." Very scary name.
-
I predicted his departure months ago, even though I didn't know about Canberra at first:
Matt Orford wants to go home to Australia.Parramatta are interested.
http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-...0721-10l51.html
What hope will Bradford have of being a top six contender if it lacks a quality scrum half?
Mick Potter is walking into a very difficult situation.
As expected, it was flatly denied by some of the usual suspects.
He's going nowhere. He has two years left on his contract. No one is going to pay us silly money to release him.
Does he?Does he really?
Show me ANYWHERE where Matt Orford is quoted as saying that.
Anywhere.
A day later I revealed that Canberra was interested:
This story now really has some legs. With Kimmorley likely to follow Barrett into retirement, it seems that Canberra are now also interested in Matt Orford.
The other news is that Orford is in dispute with Bradford!

2010 KIWIS - TRAIN-ON SQUAD
Brisbane Broncos: Alex Glenn, Antonio Winterstein
Canterbury-Bankstown: Bryson Goodwin, Ben Roberts
Canberra Raiders: Bronson Harrison
Leeds Rhinos: Greg Eastwood
Manly Sea Eagles: Kieran Foran, Steve Matai, Tony Williams
Melbourne Storm: Adam Blair, Sika Manu
Newcastle Knights: Junior Sa'u, Zeb Taia
Parramatta Eels: Krisnan Inu, Fuifui Moimoi
Penrith Panthers: Sam McKendry, Frank Pritchard
St George Illawarra Dragons: Nathan Fien, Jason Nightingale, Jeremy Smith
South Sydney Rabbitohs: Roy Asotasi, Issac Luke, Eddy Pettybourne, Fetuli Talanoa
Sydney Roosters: Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Joseph Leilua, Mose Masoe, Frank-Paul Nuuausala, Sam Perrett, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves
Warriors: Lewis Brown, Aaron Heremaia, Lance Hohaia, Kevin Locke, Simon Mannering, Ben Matulino, Russell Packer, Sam Rapira, Jerome Ropati, Ukuma Ta'ai, Manu Vatuvei
Wests Tigers: Benji Marshall
Wigan Warriors: Thomas Leuluai
looks strong enough to win the four nations, should there be more super league players selected though?
I wouldn't think so. Even Tommy Leuluai is very lucky to be there. He won't get picked as scrum half because Kieran Foran will l be competing with Nathan Fien for that spot as partner for Benji Marshall. Furthermore Isaac Luke has a mortgage on the hooking spot, with Aaron Heremaia as his most likely backup. Tommy is there in case any of the above mentioned are injured.
-
What about Sam Tomkins? Wigan have been moving him around, but he has shone in two positions.
-

Yet again hearsay, inuendo and unfounded allegations.
Perhaps you would like to give more specific details of what you know as fact that Mr Mason did at Coffs harbour? I am sure that one or two legal people would like to know.
I am not talking about criminal acts (which were never pursued anyway by the local Coffs Harbour prosecutor), but the atmosphere of indiscipline with other players that seems to follow him around wherever he is. Not only Brian Smith, but the Sydney Roosters Board of Directors wanted Mason out after the drunken incidents involving other team members, such as Nate Myles naked and defecating in a hotel stairwell. At the end of last season, though he was still under contract for 2010, the club continued to pay Mason his huge salary and told him not to come to training and to find another club because he wasn't going to be picked to play for the Roosters any more.
He got a lifeline from the struggling Cowboys at the last minute.
30 is not the normal retirement age for a forward in the NRL, especially for one who has played for Australia. It seems that even the North Queensland Cowboys, bottom of the competition, after one season of Big Willy, didn't want him any more either.
-
You are a fool
I am a Sydney Roosters fan. So I know what I am talking about. The first thing that strict disciplinarian coach Brian Smith demanded before he arrived at Bondi Junction was that the club get rid of Willy Mason.
If you really want to know what Willy Mason is like off the pitch, have a chat with the Roosters Brad Fittler, Mitchell Pearce or Nate Myles, or the former Canterbury Bulldogs team members who travelled to an ill fated weekend at Coffs Harbour a few years ago, before you start your ignorant abuse of others about Willy Mason.
-
The headllines in the Australian tabloid newspapers next May will be:
"BIG WILLY PAINTS ENGLAND RED.
Hull coach Morgan frustrated with team discipline since Mason arrived"
-
I am looking forward to reading the local Hull newspaper headlines sometime in April or May.
"Drunken Rovers players in brawl outside London disco!"
"Rovers star, former teetotaller, arrested for DUI."
"Rovers player was intoxicated while fondling stripper at nightclub."
2011 should be a fun year in East Hull.

I spent most of the weekend watching the NRL's final round, to see who made the playofffs, and also to see how the incoming imports to Les Catalans played.
Unfortunately because I tuned in late I caught only a little sight of Scott Dureau playing for a badly beaten Newcastle Knights against Melbourne Storm. All I found out was that Dureau has an excellent field kicking game. As for his other qualities I didn't learn anything.
However the night before I caught sight of Lopini Paea playing for the Roosters, and though his team played poorly against a poor North Queensland side, I am confident that Paea has the aggressive "go forward" as a prop that Les Catalans are looking for.
I was very impressed not only with the 65,000 in SE Queensdland, but also the big crowd (30,000? ) at Melbourne's AAMI Stadium.
The Kiwis should be favorites for the Four Nations

With Inglis definitely out, Thurston probably out, and Lockyer a bit suspect, it is hard to look at Australia as red hot favourites. To be sure Jamie Lyon and Michael Jennings will be great replacements for injured Inglis and Hodges, and departing Folau. Scott Prince is a great talent and able replacement for Thurston. But the missing players had the X factor. If I was a big betting man, I would put money on New Zealand. They have a lot more passion than the stylish Australians.
But I agree that the English propects are severley hindered by the choice of current coach McNamara. Bobby Goulding would have been much better, but he is already taken.
