  1. We all know Celtic Crusaders and London Broncos were by invitation, so what's the difference ?

The RFL will do what they think is best, whether or not it actually is.

I think they were hoping Toulouse would qualify properly within the rules, but as they haven't they will get an invite anyway.

It's a done deal then, Castleford and Wakefield out and Widnes and Toulouse in.

  2. Sounding like a good squad coming in. Should be pushing for the play-offs.

Where's the money coming from for these signings, though?

As far as I can make it out and don't hold me to this ;)

The funding of the new stadium is coming from the Council and Peel so the money that the Salford directors had put aside for the stadium build is being used to strengthen the squad, plus there is the Myler money due from Warrington to help fund this recruitment drive for 2011.

With the aim to generate a bigger interest in the Salford club ahead of the move into the new stadium.

It really does look like Salford have their business head firmly screwed on.

They should be top eight next year.

  3. This is late in the day, but Wigan did have a significant dip in crowds when they first went from winning everything to be second or third best. Their recovery was in a period when pretty much every Wigan fan knew the party was long over, and the club was in peril. Where we can be particularly proud of ourselves is in the way so many Wiganers love the game sufficiently to play and coach it, in greater numbers these days than for many years. People know and love the game deeply and so form the ideal target for a club to grow. I cannot comment on Bradford but maybe not enough was done to get more schools and clubs playing the game during the good times?

Wigan got some poor crowds around the 1999/2000/2001 seasons, some 6,000 and 7,000 gates (which is what Bradford are getting now).

    So there is hope.

  4. I don't know about you, but for me, the biggest difference is in the number kids going these days. When you think about it, it was the youngsters who made up a large part of the big crowds back then. If there is one area which should be addressed it should be involving the school kids, with whatever it takes, free tickets, Bullman going into the schools, cheap deals etc. I know they are more fickle than anyone, and things soon go out of fashion , but they are the future of the club and should be encouraged.

They talked the talk at the forum and it sounded fine, let's hope they can deliver.

Spot on, I've said that what we need to do is go back to the tried and tested route that worked 15 years ago by sending Bullman and the players in and around the cities schools and Rugby League clubs (the club needs to get it's self out there, promoting itself and its product once again) and hand out "free kids entry when accompanied with a full paying adult.

There still a recession on, and a lot of families in Bradford (one of the UK's poorest cities) don't have a lot of money to spend on luxuries like going to watch the Bulls up at Odsal so the free kids tickets will make it cheaper for them to come to the game.

  5. A lad I knew who supported wakey used to get the train from wakey to leeds I think, then change at leeds for one which arrived at Warrington central. As already said this station is at the most a 5 minute walk from the ground.

From my experience when I used to work Arriva Trains Northern, the best way would be to get the Wakefield Kirkgate to Huddersfield train then catch the Scarbrough to Liverpool train (which calls at Huddersfield, Warrington Central).

  6. From expereince Mick, I'd be more inclined to believe the publishers, as they have said it themselves that it won't be out then over here. Often, shops can be the last to know when something has been delayed.

Like you say the last three have been delayed something shocking.

The first one had the 2005 teams in it and we got it halfway through the 2006 season

  7. As for the game on Friday, I doubt it will be the cake walk most people expect, I think the Saints players will be down hearted after coming so close to leeds on Saturday even with no half backs. I also think the playoffs will be in the coaches mind and he will want as full and fit a squad for the playoffs as possible as presently Saints are stuck with 2nd or 3rd which makes little difference apart from a home tie in the first round.

Not to mention the two tough games that they have just had against Warrington and Leeds.

  8. Looking forward to it as ever. Through adversity etc....

Anyone coming over from Blighty, come and say bonjour and buy me a beer!

Hope to see a bounce back from last week's game against the Wire, and hopefully Kevin Walters to give some of the young French lads a run out. Doubtless the ever combative Monsieur Guasch will have been on the case since Sunday.

Look out for my friend Nicola who is going over with some Harlequins supporters for this one.

I guess the thought of going to Knowsley Road was too much of a turn-off B)

Fingers crossed Harlequins can get the win, but it'll be a hard one with the Dragons still hurting following the semi-final last week.

  9. Huddy to win this one - Bentham on the whistle so no chance for our lads.

Won't bother me too much if we lose this and the one at HKR, providing it helps both these sides to finish above Leeds and we pick up at least a point against Bradford in the final game.

Are you the bloke on RL Fans on hearing it was Bentham, flushed your match ticket down the toilet?

  10. I must say that when I was at school (St Bede's) up in Heaton.

The rivalry between City and Bulls supporters was fierce.

I also remember our years down at Valley Parade and the City supporters didn't like it one bit that we were playing at their beloved ground.

The stewards took things to the next level and didn't help.

I remember our first ever game there vs Widnes in the cup and they were very heavy handed in their approach towards us, viewing us with the same mentality as the wendyball inbreds.

  11. Mick - this thread needs re-titling now!

Agree but I've set the bookmark now to my phone so don't really want to go to all the trouble of setting a new one to a new thread.

Good post there Errol and what you say about Bradfordians being set in their ways is 100% true.

I only have to look at my family to see this, not one of us ever had a car from both my mum/dad side of the family.
