  1. Dear me, the irony of the "question" you asked is starting to become rather apparent. I haven't got any more time to waste on a keyboard warrior who I know for a fact, if he sees me on Sunday, will not say a word.

If you really were looking for an answer, no, I'm not thick. No doubt Eagleraider will be along in the morning to close the thread and pretend you never said anything.

    Night.

  2. Are you thick or what?

Is there really any need for that? An honest mistake and you resort to name calling/personal insults and implying I'm under the influence, add that to the fact you didn't actually say you'd play that same team, you just said you'd have Woodcock in instead of Haley.

You're supposed to be an adult, grow up.

  3. I didn't positively say that John Coleman should be in the team, I argued that your analysis was comparable....A good performance was put in by both players. By the way it is very early days to claim John doesn't "contribute enough". He has stepped up a few leagues to put himself in contention for the outstanding Eagles!!!.....I do believe you should consider fielding a recognised Goal Kicker, they do put points on the board.....PS Well done for starting this thread.

No disrespect to John Coleman at all, like you say he has stepped up a few leagues, but I wouldn't call his performance at Oldham a good one, particularly defensively. He is a good goal kicker, but to kick goals someone needs to score the tries, and that's why Menzie and Tangi must start in the centres. I suppose in hindsight, presuming he's fully fit, Woodcock will have to start to cover the goal kicking base, but this would be extremely harsh on Thackeray.

You've contributed a few times to the thread now Eagletarian but still not posted your 17! Let's 'ave it :D

  4. You could argue the same for John Coleman, his Goal Kicking and Try were pretty important contributions in the Oldham game.

His goal kicking is top notch from what we've seen so far, his try was a walk in. He doesn't contribute enough in my opinion, certainly not to get in the team ahead of Menzie or Tangi.

  5. There seems to be a theme here about Johnny not being in the team - mood as changed in the last few weeks - but I think it's right - might give him the impetus to pick his speed up and occassionally off load

    Baffling.

The only reason he's not in my team is because Ashley Thackeray played a blinder at Oldham, and if he doesn't retain his place he's going to wonder what he has to do, no relfection on Jonny.

  6. Mitch, or even Tangi. Tangi kicked at Barrow last year.

    My team would be:

    Woodcock

    Taluapapa

    Ropati

    Yere

    Barnett

    Lindsay

    Brooks

    Howieson

    Cook

    Stringer

    Szostak

    Exton

    Green

    Thackeray

    McDonald

    Barlow

    Hepworth

Would you want to tell Ged he's not in the team? :D

  7. Now we've had a look at the whole squad, barring injured players, what would be your team for the first league game?

    I'd go with:

    Thackeray

    Barnett

    Yere

    Ropati

    Taulapapa

    Lindsay

    Brooks

    Howieson

    Cook

    Stringer

    Szostak

    Corcoran

    Green

    Subs:

    Hepworth

    Barlow

    Exton

    Haley

This is presuming Alex Rowe gets a ban, I think his disciplinary was today.

  8. Lets just say some of the natives opinions on what is not a high tackle was certainly, ermmm, interesting.

Despite that us good houmoured eagles fans had some interesting craic with the natives. The comment of "How can you afford these players? You havent even got your own ground!" from an Oldham fan was probably the winner.

Credit must go to all the hardy eagles travellers who went for turning up in tempratures similar to those experienced by Michael Palin at the end of Pole to Pole.

Cold Shoulder, me? Nahhhhh. Cold everything else, Yes.

Especially those who managed to bag themselves a prawn sandwich ticket, eh Basil? ;)

The majority of the Oldham fans were good humoured and had a laugh, but there were some muppets. The fella who came out with, "You haven't even got your own ground" even his own fans couldn't believe the irony! And his missus (I assume) was the one who hadn't quite grasped the human anatomy yet, and thought your shoulder rested on your eyebrows.

  9. Now if you will excuse me peeps, before bed im going to get my old science book out and check just where on the anatomy the shoulder really is....,,

I didn't say anywhere it wasn't a good result, a win's a win, but anyone who thinks the performance was up to scratch is deluded, ball handling and defence was woeful. How many knock ons? How many missed tackles? Oldham deserved a draw imo, but we're not complaining.

The feeling has just returned to my feet. Oh, and Hicks was a joke again, equally incompetent for both sides.

  10. Just got back, exceptionally quick write up cos I'm knackered

To be honest I thought we were poor tonight, really poor. How the defence can go from as solid as it was against Halifax to as bad as it was tonight is baffling. Yes we had a largely second string side out, but we still didn't perform to our potential, particularly in defence. The two Irish lads especially were found wanting in defence, and 3 of their 4 tries came down our right hand side. Honourable mentions to Ashley Thackeray and Alex Rowe, the only two to come out with any real credit in my opinion, maybe along with Sam Barlow, especially Ash, even if Jonny is fit for the next game Ash deserves to keep his place at full back. Menzie and Richie Barnett never really got into the game.
