  2. FRANCESCO BAGNIA STORMS TO FOUTH VICTORY OF THE SEASON IN ASSEN

Francesco Bagnaia stormed to victory at the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen and heads into the summer break with a 35-point advantage in the MotoGP Championship table.
The Ducati rider took the lead on Lap 3 and gradually extended it to around one second to claim his fourth win of the season.

"It wasn't easy because the riders behind me were pushing a lot and I tried to open up a gap," Bagnaia said after the race. "I just managed that in the last laps and I finally allowed myself to breathe because I was on the limit.

"I love this track, I love this crowd and it's fantastic to be here."
Pole sitter Marco Bezzechi took the chequered flag in second while Brad Binder lost out on a podium in controversial circumstances.
History repeated itself for the South African who crossed the line in third, but, for the second time in twenty four hours, was demoted a position due to exceeding track limits. Aleix Espargaro found some great pace late in the race and inherited the spot on the rostrum.

Binder had a magnificent start and took the holeshot into Turn 1. Bagnaia claimed the lead on the third lap, but Binder continued to shadow the Ducati with Bezzecchi close behind him as the top three riders pulled away from the field.
When Bagnaia gradually edged away, Bezzecchi made a move for second stick to try hunt down his compatriot. Although he was unable to close the gap, he completed a very positive weekend in second. "I'm very happy," the Italian said.
"I had contact with some riders at the start and lost time and when I was behind Brad, he was very strong on the brakes. It took me many laps to pass him and then Pecco was already too far away.
"I'm happy anyway because this weekend we worked in the best way we can and the fans were amazing, I love this place!"

Meanwhile, Espargaro, despite having suffered damage to his Aprilia's aero in a collision at the start, was running some fantastic pace and closed in on Binder. Behind him, Jorge Martin also got ever faster as the race progressed and was within punching distance in the final stages.
Binder held on to second on the last lap while Espargaro crossed the line less than a hundredth of a second ahead of Martin. This proved crucial when Binder received his penalty and the podium position went to the Aprilia rider.

"In the right corners I had a strange feeling; there was a lot of shaking and it was difficult to stay on the bike," Espargaro admitted post race. "It was not possible for me to overtake Brad, but I wanted to stay behind him and push him into a mistake."
Temperatures were at the hottest they had been all weekend and many riders fell victim to the track conditions. Among them were Jack Miller, who crashed out going into Turn 1 on the second lap, and Fabio Quartararo who lost the front at Turn 7 and wiped out his compatriot Johann Zarco.

RIDER OF THE DAY ALEIX ESPARGARO
    (APRILIA RACING)

Not many would have tipped the Spaniard for a podium finish today. He might have benefited from Binder's penalty to make the rostrum, but Espargaro's late race pace and tenacity earned him the success.
Starting from sixth, Espargaro made contact with Luca Marini at lights out and suffered some damage to his Aprilia's aero. Nevertheless, he pushed on, running in fourth throughout the race, and was on the pace in the closing stages.
The 33-year old moved up one position to eighth in the championship standings.

  3. MARC MARQUEZ TOLD HE CAN LEAVE REPSOL HONDA A YEAR AHEAD OF HIS CONTRACT EXPIRY
Honda MotoGP head Alberto Puig has told Marc Marquez that he is free to leave his contract a year early at the end of the 2023 season.
Marquez has a four-year deal with the team that is due to run until the end of the 2024 season, his team has announced that he will not take part in the Dutch Grand Prix after a succession of crashes at the last GP in Germany.

The six-time MotoGP champion was able to take part in yesterday’s sprint race at the track in Assen, but after an accident in qualifying with Enea Bastianini, he started in 17th and was unable to improve upon that.

Puig later suggested that the team’s talismanic rider will be free to leave despite the four-year deal he signed in 2020.
“We have a contract, but every person is free to do what they want in life,” said Puig. “And Honda is not a company that wants to have people who are not happy being at Honda.
“So, of course we have a contract, but Honda respects Marc a lot. I want to think [he will stay] based on the contract, but I don’t have a [magic wand].”

Marquez was similarly non-committal about his future, saying: “So now I am in a big moment and I cannot think about this.
“You cannot decide things about your future when you are in such a condition. During this month and a half I need to rebuild my body and the mental side.
“I am in one of the worst moments of my career. But I’m very lucky that I am in one of the best moments in my personal life, with a very good team around me. Everything is stable and this helps a lot.

“So now I need to think, to breathe, to speak with my people… and then I need to ride the bike again.
“I’ll try to start at Silverstone with the same commitment as in Portimao [the season opener]. Obviously there will be a different approach, but the same commitment.”

  5. Gold Coast Titans have confirmed the immediate departure of head coach Justin Holbrook, with assistant coach Jim Lenihan to take over in an interim capacity before Des Hasler assumes the reins for 2024.

Hasler brings significant experience having coached 458 NRL games, reaching five grand finals and winning premierships in 2008 and 2011 with Manly.

He last coached the Sea Eagles in 2022 where he finished 11th with nine wins from 24 games.

“I’m looking forward to joining the Titans and to the 2024 season,” Hasler said.

“The club has a strong playing roster, the region is blessed with emerging talent and the organisation is firmly embedded in the community.

“I’m confident we can deliver success to the region in the coming seasons.”

The Titans sit ninth on the ladder and face front-runners the Broncos in a huge clash at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday in Lenihan's first game in charge.

Lenihan will steer the Titans through their remaining 10 games and look to carry them into the finals before Hasler takes control for the 2024 pre-season.

We think we need a winner and someone who has been to grand finals and what that brings into your organisation," said Titans CEO Steve Mitchell.

"We need to make a change, we’re not improving.

"Des will create a winning environment – it’s very unusual to have a coach of Des’ ilk in the market where he is not employed so sometimes timing is everything."

After finishing last in the previous season, the Titans would finish ninth in Holbrook's first season in charge before going one better the following year as they earned their first finals berth since 2016 with an eighth-placed finish.

However, the club struggled to recapture that form in 2022, ending the year in 13th place with just six wins throughout the year.

"We are grateful to Justin for his contribution to the club over the past four seasons,” said Mitchell.

“We are here to bring success to the Gold Coast and in order to do so we feel that this is the change necessary to deliver on our promise which is to win premierships.

"We are at a point in time where we feel our program is not achieving what we want it to achieve, nor is it fulfilling the promises we have made to our rugby league community."

  6. On 21/06/2023 at 22:57, Sports Prophet said:

He has no right to sit out. Unless all parties agree, there is no transfer.

He can sit out his choice but he won't get paid by the Dragons, and Hunt won't be able to sign a contract with another club until his current contract with the Dragons has expired.

    An update

Hunt has said he will play for the Dragons tonight against the Warriors. After that who knows what will happen. Hunt also said he will play for his team mates and not for the club. Hunt also stated his reason for wanting a release from the Dragons is, the family want to move back to Queensland......So the Ben Hunt saga continues.

  9. THE RULES OF TOTAL RL FORUM.....NRL SURVIVOR COMPETITION 2023

1: You must pick one winning team a week till you are eliminated

2: If the team you picked wins, or ties, you survive. If the team you picked looses you're eliminated.

3: You may only pick any team once. - As an example if you pick the Penrith Panthers in any week,
you can't pick them again in any other week during the current heat, but you can pick them again in any other heat of NRL Survivor or the final of NRL Survivor if you are a heat winner.

4: You can edit your picks as long as the game you are picking a winner in has not started

5: All picks must be in before kick off of the game you are picking a winner in.

6: You can enter the competition at any week during the heat stage of the competition but you must be a winner of a heat to compete in the final of the competition for the prize of $100AUD. You will be invited by forum private message to come and participate in the final if you are 1 of the heat winners.

7The competition continues in every heat & the final until there is a winner.

8: Don't miss a week or you will be eliminated from the competition once you have entered a heat or the final.

9: Once you are the winner of a heat you must wait until you are invited back to compete in the final before taking any further participation in the competition, that gives more people a chance of competing in the final.

10: When the competition gets Down to 5 players surviving in a heat or the final.
You must pick a combined points total of both teams without breaking the actual total points that are scored in the game by both teams.

This will be used as a tie breaker, if needed to find a winner of the current heat of Survivor, but not the final, see rule 12 for the final tie breaker .

After the heat gets down to 5 players or less no more players will be admitted to that current heat, but you can rejoin the competition in the next heat. If you are invited to take part in the final you must take part in the first round and every round till either you are eliminated or you win the competition, miss a round of the final and you are eliminated.

11: The 3 State Of Origin Games will not be included in the competition.

12: If after the result of NRL Grand Final has been decided and there are 2 or more Survivors still surviving in the competition, It will come down to whoever gets closest to the total score, regardless if you break the combined score or not.
THIS YEAR THERE WILL BE A PRIZE OF $100AUD FOR THE WINNER OF THE  FINAL IN THE COMPETITION.

    GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.
