Huge boost for Leeds as Danny McGuire set to return

Leeds Rhinos have been handed a huge boost for Friday’s crunch clash against St Helens with the news that captain Danny McGuire is likely to return for this weekend’s game.

The veteran half-back has led the Rhinos only once in Super League since inheriting the captain’s armband from Kevin Sinfield after sustaining a knee injury in the opening game against Warrington Wolves.

Leeds have won only once in the absence of McGuire, who sat out their last five matches, including the World Cup Challenge, but he has been included in coach Brian McDermott’s 19-man squad for the visit of Saints, along with Joel Moon, Carl Ablett and Brett Delaney.

Ablett has not played since damaging an ankle in round two while Moon and Delaney missed last week’s defeat at Wigan Warriors with hamstring injuries.

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham brings in Jack Owens for injured winger Adam Swift and has also included Travis Burns and Andre Savelio in his 19-man squad.
