Koukash says Fages is on sick leave

Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash has revealed that wantaway half-back Theo Fages is currently on sick leave with the club.

It was revealed last week how Fages had handed in his resignation with the club, several weeks after League Express revealed Fages had handed in a transfer request with the club.

And Koukash, speaking in his MEN column, says Fages is currently not at the club. “Theo actually resigned about two or three weeks ago,” Koukash said.

“We rejected this and were under the impression he was now wanting to go to a tribunal. He can do this but if this happens, the club is confident of its position.

“We agreed to his transfer request back in May and told him we were prepared to listen to offers but nothing has materialised on this front and it has now come to this.

“After we rejected his resignation, he submitted a sick note and is currently on sick leave.”

However, Fages’ management released a statement to TotalRL.com last week detailing that the scrum-half has resigned, and is not on sick leave.

TM Sports said: “Theo Fages has confirmed that on Wednesday July 22 he has exercised his right to terminate his contract with Salford Red Devils as per clause 24.1 due to a number of repudiatory breaches.

“The club were given the formal seven days notice as per the requirements, and the RFL have advised that the club have exercised their right to appeal the decision and therefore the matter will be referred to an independent tribunal at the earliest opportunity.

“Due to legal reason we will not be making any further comments until after proceedings have taken place.”
