Hull KR head coach James Webster has revealed he turned down the opportunity to bring a Super League player on loan.
As the club continues to deal with a stack of injuries, Webster decided to call up Joe Wardill, Kieran Moran, Will Oakes and Joe Cator from the City of Hull Academy, with Wardill and Moran both signing long-term deals with the club yesterday.
And Webster insists that he will continue to blood young players over pulling players in from other clubs.
“We were actually offered a player on loan from another Super League club but turned them down,” Webster told the Hull Daily Mail.
“There are a few clubs more fortunate than others are at the moment and are near to full strength, but we’re very keen to see our young kids be the future of KR.
“Gone are the days when teams are filled with Australian superstars. You see throughout the rest of Super League, especially this year, that more kids are getting a crack.”
