Lizzie Jones took to the stage at last night’s SPOTY awards in Belfast to sing ‘Danny Boy’ in memory of her widow, Danny.
Former Wales international Danny played for Halifax and Keighley Cougars, before he died playing for the Cougars.
Lizzie first sung in his memory at the 2015 Challenge Cup final with a rendition of ‘Abide by Me’.
At last night’s Sports Personality of the Year awards in Belfast, Jones sung ‘Danny Boy’ to a montage of sportsmen and women who had died over the last year.
Whilst the song is prevalent in Nothern Ireland for its heritage, it was also a fitting tribute to her widow.
Her song has also been made available on iTunes for those who did not see her rendition or for those who wish to listen again. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/danny-boy-single/id1066282687
