The RFL has asked Halifax player Ed Barber to explain himself following a post on social media.
Barber posted on Twitter in response to the new local restrictions in place across northern England.
He said: “All these places which are all back in lockdown, what are they full of?”
Barber subsequently deleted his account before returning to the portal on Friday morning.
He has a week to reply to the RFL before they consider further action.
