Smith backs Clark to win Man of Steel

Tony Smith has made a case for Daryl Clark to win the Man of Steel.

The Warrington hooker has been in superb form this season, replicating the form that saw him win the award at Castleford in 2014.

Clark, who has spoken to League Express for the new edition of the paper, believes there are a number of contenders for the award at Warrington.

However, Warrington chief Smith believes his number nine is in the reckoning too.

“Daryl was always going to get back to it.

“He wasn’t too far off it last year, and he came to a new team that has a different style. He came to us last year with a couple of injuries after an England programme the year before, and he struggled to train a lot, which affected his play. It did him an injustice really.

“But this year his body is in a lot better shape and as you can see he’s back to doing what he does back, running hard and defending well. He’s got a really good combination with Brad Dwyer which takes some of the workload off him. He’s definitely in with a shout of Man of Steel.”
