TWELVE teams have already confirmed that they will be taking part in the inaugural Rugby League Masters Euro Fest.
The over 35s event will be staged in Ireland – at Malahide Rugby Club, the home of Leinster Warriors – on Saturday, August 2, and six countries, including Australia, England, Ireland, Wales and Scandinavian nations, will be represented.
It is anticipated that the 13-a-side tournament will be played initially in round-robin groups, with a further six sides expected to be involved.
The draw will be seeded so that, where possible, clubs do not play others from their own country, with the aim of enhancing the cultural experience of the event.
Craig Best, chairman of Masters Rugby League Ireland, said: “Leinster Warriors and RLI Masters are hugely excited to be hosting the first-ever Euro Fest event.
“It’s a massive opportunity to grow Masters Rugby League, especially in countries where it has never been played. It would be the hope that the concept will be embraced and taken to other places in the future.”
Entry is €100 per team, with each side responsible for its own transport and accommodation.
