Adrian Lam insists Leigh Leopards have ‘one or two gears’ to go

ADRIAN LAM believes that Leigh Leopards still have “one or two gears left to go”.

The Leopards can leapfrog Wigan Warriors – at least overnight – into second with a victory over Leeds Rhinos tomorrow (Thursday) night.

They are reaping the rewards of a fantastic run of form having won their last four, but Lam insists that the Leopards can get even better.

“It’s pretty special to think about what we’ve done this year. I still think we’ve got one or two gears left to go,” Lam said.

“I think we’ve been pretty honest about ourselves all year. We’ve been playing good rugby but have been inconsistent for parts of the season.

“We’ve got a good bunch of boys that learn quickly. We don’t want to fall in love with ourselves.

“We’ve earned what we’ve got so far but we’ve got to hold on to it now. It’s going to come down to the last game of the season about who finishes where in the top six.”

Lam, however, is not afraid to change a winning team with three players set to return.

“Robbie Mulhern, Ethan O’Neill and Darnell McIntosh will all be fit to be included so I am pretty excited about that.

“It doesn’t guarantee anything but it does boost you. We haven’t played a game with a full team this year.:

It’s fair to say that Lam isn’t getting carried away, but that the Leigh club’s mentality has switched over time.

“I’m always promoting to the group that our mindset has changed over the last three years. We want to be a top four and semi-finals each year.

“We have been able to do that since returning to Super League but we are wanting to better ourselves. We’ve still got a lot of work to do.

“Our fans have got rising expectations which is where we want to be as a club.”
