Anthony Murray confident Whitehaven will get better

WHITEHAVEN coach Anthony Murray is confident his new-look squad will get better and better as the season goes on.

The Cumbrian side beat Keighley 20-4 last time out after narrowly missing out to Swinton in round one.

“I think we’ve made a really good start to the league season,” said Murray.

“Defensively against Swinton we gave a really good account of ourselves, but some core skills and decision making let us down a bit.

“In terms of effort and enthusiasm I can’t fault how we’ve started the season.

“When you look at our squad we have 26 players and only one of them – Connor Holliday – is still at Whitehaven from last season.

“The rest is a brand new squad and a large part of it has come from the community game, so we are a very inexperienced group when it comes to playing at professional level.

“We don’t fall short when it comes to effort, so once the experience kicks in, they play a few more games at this level and gel as a team, hopefully we can have a reasonably good season.”
