Arron Lindop hails Warrington Wolves squad depth and makes claim for Wembley spot

ARRON LINDOP paid tribute to his teammates following Warrington’s 21-14 win over Leigh which earned them a spot in the Challenge Cup final for the second year running.

Leigh took the lead through Edwin Ipape after just 49 seconds but tries from Rodrick Tai, Paul Vaughan and Toby King – as well as the kicks of Marc Sneyd – helped the Wolves turn it around.

Sam Burgess’ men have not had much luck with injuries this season, and their coach shuffled his deck once more with Stefan Ratchford alongside the returning Sneyd in the halves.

Teenage winger Lindop believes the quality within the Warrington squad is so high, they can handle whatever challenges come their way.

“We have a massive squad and everybody in the team is capable of coming in and doing a job if somebody is ill or injured,” he said.

“Everyone is confident in their role and the whole squad trust each other to come in and do the right thing. We are missing key players, but their replacements are doing just as well.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game, credit to Leigh who came out fast, but I feel we stuck to the plan and got the job done.

“We went in there with calm heads and brought physicality, but we needed to have something more than that. We were really composed and just ground them out.”

Named on the bench, 19-year-old Lindop is enjoying a break-out season under Burgess, having already made nine appearances – matching his total from last year.

And he is hoping to develop further to hopefully don the Warrington shirt at Wembley against current Super League leaders Hull KR.

“Credit to Sam for giving me these opportunities because I have played in every game I’ve been available,” he added.

“I can’t ask for any more, it isn’t going to come overnight but I am learning to develop and not get too high after a win or too low after a defeat.

“I am learning every single game to be better. Last year I went (to Wembley) with the boys and it was an amazing trip, but we didn’t get the job done and I didn’t play. So hopefully I will play this time, but if we get the job done then that means more.

“We are all confident, Hull KR are a great team and they have brought in a number of amazing players, but if we stick together and do our individual jobs we should come out with a result.”
