Batley Bulldogs coach’s vow after slow start to season

BATLEY BULLDOGS coach Mark Moxon says morale is high as his team fight to overcome a slow start to the season and escape the Championship danger zone.

The Fox’s Biscuits Stadium side fought out an exciting 24-24 home draw with Barrow to take their points tally to six from eight games.

It was their second draw of the season after the 18-18 outcome at Oldham in February.

A late try from dual-registration Wakefield centre Jayden Myers rescued Batley against Barrow, although scrum-half Josh Woods couldn’t land the conversion which would have won it.

While a thumb injury for stand-off Ben White is a worry for Moxon ahead of the visit of Bradford tomorrow (Sunday), the boss will have experienced backrow Dane Manning available following suspension for the next match, at Featherstone on Sunday week, May 25.

Reflecting on the stalemate against Barrow, Moxon told the Dewsbury Reporter:  “Both teams deserved a point out of it. Barrow got off to a good start and if somebody had given me a draw at 14-0 down I’d have taken it.

“Those demons which have been hanging over us were still there at the start but with the things we had practised all week in training, the intensity in defence and line speed, I could see the effort and the application was there.

“That result was carved out of hard work. We are all in it together. There have been no cracks in the group, in the morale, we will fight for everything.”
