BATLEY BULLDOGS coach Mark Moxon says he and his players are up for the challenge of punching above the club’s financial weight once again.
With the Championship currently having 13 clubs and Batley handed a first-weekend bye, the long-serving staff member has to wait for the start of his second league season in charge.
One of the smallest spenders in the section visit one of the bigger when the Bulldogs head to Oldham on Sunday.
Batley beat neighbours Dewsbury 26-4 as Championship rivals Bradford dumped Super League Castleford from the third round of the Challenge Cup.
And Moxon noted: “Bradford have spent a bit – I thought on paper, their squad looked similar to Castleford’s in terms of strength.
“There are a few clubs who have spent a bit, and that means the division is going to be tough.
“Our finances are tight, just as they have always been, and we’ve probably spent a lot less than most of the other teams.
“But we’ve always been up for the challenge, and nothing has changed.”
