Beaumont upset with cash distribution for Super 8s

Leigh Centurions head of rugby Derek Beaumont believes the system involved with handing cash out for teams on television during the Super 8s is all wrong.

Super League sides are given £15,000 plus advertising cash for hosting a live TV game – whilst Championship teams receive nothing.

“It really is a laughable situation because the Super League teams will receive £15,000 for hosting a live game and we get nothing,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“They are also entitled to an additional £5,000 for having the pitch painted with sponsored logos.

“For some reason, us Championship clubs who are having to take on these teams are not entitled to any pay outs from the TV company.

“You would think it would be the other way round. I wish it was. While coverage and exposure of our game is always welcome, we have to meet financial constraints.”
