OLDHAM arrival Ben Davies says his move from St Helens has provided exactly the boost he needed – and has told fans he is fully focused on helping Sean Long’s side challenge for success this season.
The 25-year-old centre dropped down from Super League to sign a contract to 2026, with the Roughyeds also recruiting Widnes backrow Ryan Lannon and French hooker Eloi Pelissier from Pia on deals to the end of this season to reinforce their Championship mission.
Oldham are also in the 1895 Cup semi-finals, and aim to overcome Featherstone at Boundary Park on Sunday to seal a first-ever trip to Wembley for any version of the club.
While Lannon has already played in the competition for Widnes this season, Davies’ only appearances of 2025 before his Roughyeds’ debut at Doncaster were for Saints in their 38-0 Challenge Cup third-round win over amateurs West Hull in February and on loan to Castleford in the 19-18 golden-point defeat at Hull KR in the first round of Super League later that month.
Oldham laboured to a 30-26 win at Doncaster, with Davies forming a partnership with Wigan winger Jacob Douglas, who was playing on dual registration, then lost 30-18 at home to Toulouse on Saturday.
“It was great to get back to playing,” said Davies, who made 41 appearances (eleven tries) for Saints, where he was in his sixth season in the first-team squad after a move from Widnes.
“It was a tough game, because while while we started well, we slipped a bit and let Doncaster get back into it.
“But there’s a lot of togetherness in this squad, and it’s great to be a part of that. We were able to grind out the two points.
“It’s been a frustrating time because I’ve struggled for matches with Saints. I’ve just wanted to play, and this move has given me an opportunity to stake a claim and get a bit of excitement back.”
