Brierley move to Leeds a non-starter

The Yorkshire Evening Post are reporting that Ryan Brierley has asked for a transfer to Super League giants Leeds Rhinos – but the move has been blocked, and Brierley will be going nowhere.

Reports have constantly linked Brierley with a move away from the Centurions after a blistering 2014, with a number of Super League clubs believed to be interested in his services. However, Leigh’s head of rugby Derek Beaumont has confirmed that contact was made between Leeds and Brierley – but there has been no formal offer from the Rhinos, according to him.

“Ryan Brierley is contracted to Leigh until 2016,” Beaumont told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “Someone from Leeds contacted Ryan and his agent, even though he is contracted to ourselves.

“I met with Gary Hetherington at the Scotland versus France game at Galashiels last Friday and Gary confirmed that Leeds have no interest in signing Ryan Brierley.

“I gave Gary my phone number and if there’s any interest in the future by Leeds Rhinos in any of our players Gary will contact me directly in the first instance.”

“Leigh have not had a formal offer from Leeds Rhinos, nor would we welcome one.”
