Broncos edge out Halifax at The Hive

London Broncos defeated Halifax 22-18 today in a thrilling game at The Hive, moving up into sixth place in the Super League table, as Halifax drop to fifth.

In a game that was tightly contested throughout the 80 minutes, the Broncos took the lead in the first minute, when Daniel Harrison forced his way over, with Wes Naiqama adding the goal.

Halifax replied ten minutes later, however, when James Saltonstall dived over in the corner, with Steve Tyrer’s goal equalising the scores.

And Halifax took the lead after 16 minutes, when Ben Heaton crossed after great work by Dane Manning, and Tyrer’s goal opened a six-point gap.

But it took the Broncos only five minutes to reply, when former Sheffield Eagles forward Matt Garside forced his way over, and Naiqama’s goal levelled the scores again.

In the second half Fax were the first to score, when Australian Mitch Cahalane touched down, and Tyrer’s goal put them 12-18 ahead after 54 minutes.

The Broncos closed the gap, however, when local boy Iliess Macani scored, although this time there was no conversion and the Broncos were two points behind.

And they took the lead four minutes later, when Brad Dwyer, who is on loan for the 2015 season from Warrington, touched down for Naiqama to convert for a four-point lead.

And although Halifax pushed the Broncos hard in the final ten minutes, the Broncos were able to hold on for a much-needed victory.

A full report from this game will feature in Monday’s edition of Rugby League Express.
