CAM SCOTT believes he can hit the ground running at Wakefield after spending the end of last season with the club.
The centre signed a two-year deal, with the option of an extra year, last summer to join the club from 2025.
After being sidelined by a torn calf, Scott was released from his contract at Hull FC and continued his recovery with his future club.
He’s now back fit and played for the first time in more than six months on Boxing Day, when Wakefield were narrowly beaten at Leeds in their first pre-season game.
“I was a bit nervous as I’d had so long out, but once we got onto the field it felt like I’d never been away,” said Scott, 25.
“I felt like all the work I’ve done in the off-season had paid dividends.”
Scott reckons he’ll be better off for joining Trinity early and getting to know many of the Championship winners he will now be playing alongside.
“We worked really hard in that period when I came here but wasn’t able to play. I could get around the group and learn as I watched from the side,” he said.
“That meant once I came in here I could hit the ground running and I’ve not looked back from the start of pre-season.
“It doesn’t feel like I’m coming into a new group. I’ve had the chance to build those relationships with the majority for the group last year and even though I couldn’t play and contribute it was massive to get in and around the staff.
“Even from a learning point of view, I could watch videos, watch the plays and watch training, be involved in little skill drills and different things.
“It meant when I did come in I wasn’t new. I didn’t feel like I was starting to afresh.”
