Catalans release Willie Mason from contract

Catalans Dragons and Willie Mason have reached an agreement to terminate the former Australia forward’s contract with immediate effect.

Having been already ruled out for the rest of the season with an avulsion fracture and ankle ligament tears, the player has been given permission to leave the club.

The former Australia international arrived at the club in February and made 14 Super League appearances, scoring one try.

Club CEO Christophe Jouffret commented: “It is bad news to see Willie ruled out for the rest of the season with a bad injury.

“Willie had a fantastic career in the different clubs he played for and on the international stage with New South Wales, Tonga and Australia. He will remain among the great players who have worn the Catalans Dragons jersey. We would like to wish him all the best for the future. “
