Catalans tough it out to beat Wakefield

Catalans Dragons held off a late Wakefield Trinity Wildcats charge to record their first Super League Super 8s victory in four games.

The two sides traded early blows, despite the Dragons leading by two scores at the break.

Wakefield dominated the game’s second period but failed to turn territory into points.

Jason Baitieri opened the Dragons account, though his effort was cancelled out by a Max Jowitt try.

Catalans scored again prior to the interval through Julian Bousquet, with Tony Gigot converting for a second time.

The visitors’ advantage was slashed to just two points when Craig Hall hit back for Wakefield and Finn added the extras.

But the Dragons held out to claim the two points as Gigot landed a late penalty goal.

A full report will be in Monday’s League Express.
