Super League clubs are circling around Hull KR utility Chris Atkin as the England Knights international remains unable to agree a new contract with the club following the opening of this week’s window for rival teams to speak with out-of-contract players.
Atkin is one of several big names out of contract with the Robins come the end of this season, alongside forward James Greenwood and halfback Josh Drinkwater.
But Atkin, who has featured in the majority of Rovers’ games so far this season in a variety of positions, including from the bench, has yet to sign a new deal beyond this season. Other clubs are preparing bids and are ready to pounce.
At least two clubs are interested in speaking with Atkin, according to League Express.
Atkin’s versatility and ability to cover a number of positions is helping generate such an interest in his services for 2020, though Hull KR have by no means given up on re-signing the former Swinton player next season, too.
Talks are understood to have taken place between Atkin and his representatives about a new deal, but, with nothing signed yet, that has alerted clubs to the possibility of being able to open their own talks with the player in a bid to lure him away from Tim Sheens’ side.
