CASTLEFORD TIGERS ran out 20-14 winners over Warrington Wolves at The Jungle this afternoon.
The Tigers were 12-10 up at the break before a Josh Simm try and the boot of Chris Atkin just about took Chris Chester’s men out of sight.
And Chester was overjoyed to say the least after the game: “I’m super proud. We spoke all week about confidence and belief and how our effort levels need to be of a high standard and I thought we got in abundance.
“The confidence we showed to throw the ball about was impressive. We could have held onto that ball in these conditions.
“We’ve been lacking belief and confidence to throw that pass but I’m really pleased we’ve got the result.
“I thought we deserved it, we out-enthused Warrington.”
Chester also had kind words for the ever-impressive Jeremiah Simbiken.
“He has come back off a long lay-off. He was struggling for gas last week but he was very good today.
“On the whole, it was a really good team performance and something the town should be proud of.”
The Tigers also lost Innes Senior to injury.
“It looks like Innes has dislocated his ankle. I’ve not had too many chats with the medical team,” Chester said.
There was also a contentious moment when Josh Thewlis was taken high by Alex Mellor in the act of scoring.
Mellor was duly sinbinned, but Warrington were awarded just a penalty – and the Castleford boss feels it would have been harsh to give a penalty try.
“I think it would have been harsh to award a penalty try there. I agree with the sinbinning because he has caught him high even though he made an unbelievable effort to hold him up.”
