Cornwall have ‘real vision’ under new ownership

CORNWALL coach Mike Abbott is confident the club can plan for the long term under new owner Ken Stone.

The Choughs were taken over in November and Abbott has praised his vision for creating a sustainable set-up.

“One thing Ken has been really good at is looking at the looking at the logistics of where we are,” said Abbott.

“For the past few seasons we have shipped players from up north in and out, but that’s not really sustainable.

“There are loads of good players in the Southern Conference League and we need to be looking at them and at the university sides.

“There are some good players from the north who have come down to study at places like Gloucester and Exeter.

“We have got to look at those guys and it’s starting to pay off with some really good lads putting their hands up to play for us.

“All the plans Ken has come in with are really promising. There is a real vision now as to where we will be in five and ten years’ time, rather than just going season to season.”

Abbott has signed up former Leeds Academy and Keighley winger Keenan Dyer-Dixon on a one-year deal.

The 21-year-old, who moved to West Yorkshire from Bedfordshire at the age of twelve, is hoping to earn a spot for the opening league game at Workington on Sunday.

“It’s really good to get Keenan on board,” said Abbott. “He has been in contact with the club for a long time now and having spoken to a number of our team who have played with him, they have said how he’s really quick.

“I’m hoping Keenan can put his best foot forward and become a big part of this team.”
