Cup final boosts Robins cashflow, says chairman

Hull KR chairman Neil Hudgell has revealed that the club’s appearance in the Challenge Cup Final this year has enabled their finances to look as good as they have in the last decade.

The Robins made it all the way to Wembley after a sensational run to the final, beating big names like Wigan and Warrington along the way.

And Hudgell admitted that the cash made from that run was able to plug a “bit of a black hole”, and said the money made has helped their finances to look in a better position.

“It filled a bit of a black hole. If you can budget for a cup final appearance every year then you will be in a far more comfortable position,” Hudgell told BBC Radio Humberside.

“Our finances are ok in context to how they’ve been in the last 10 years.”

Hull KR lost the final, being thrashed 50-0 by Leeds Rhinos back in August. However, they retained their Super League status with relative ease in The Qualifiers soon after.
