Cuthbertson backs Leeds targets to succeed if signed

Adam Cuthbertson believes both Tyler Randell or Matty Ballin would be major hits at Leeds.

The Rhinos are expected to conclude their search for a hooker to replace James Segeyaro this week, with the two players previously mentioned along with Manly’s Matty Parcell.

Since Segeayaro went public with his desire to leave the club, the Rhinos have been searching for a replacement, with a four-man shortlist thought to have been drawn up.

Cuthbertson knows both Randell and Ballin well from his time in the NRL, having played with both at Newcastle and Manly respectively, and he believes they would both be a good fit at Headingley.

“Tyler was just coming into grade when I was leaving,” he said.

“He’s an outstanding talent and he can play anywhere. He used to play back-row in reserve grade and five-eight too. Going into first grade, if the coaches believe they’ll fit well elsewhere they’ll switch them about.

“He ended up playing hooker in first grade and he was outstanding. He holds his own in defence and he’s skilful with the ball. He’d be a good fit if that’s the way we go.”

As for Ballin, Cutherbertson said: “His record speaks for himself. He’s played Origin and he’s got two Grand Finals under his belt. He’s a rock solid hooker and one of those tireless hookers that will play a solid 80 minutes for you week in, week out.

“I played plenty of years with Matty and I loved it. I think whichever way the club goes, so long as they want to buy into what we want to achieve, that comes first and foremost.”
