Daryl Powell distances himself from Leeds Rhinos job

Daryl Powell has distanced himself from the vacant Leeds Rhinos job.

The Castleford head coach has been named as one of the favourites for the post following Dave Furner’s departure.

Powell had his first coaching role with the Rhinos in 2001 before leaving the post to become director of rugby in 2003.

However, the 53-year-old said he wouldn’t be returning to Headingley.

“I’ve got a great job here at Castleford,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I’m always one of the favourites aren’t I? I’ve been there before, but that’s the way it is. But I’m enjoying what I’m doing at the minute.”
