Oldham have completed a double loan swoop by landing Sheffield Eagles duo Dave Hewitt and Jack Blagbrough for the remainder of the season.
The young duo have struggled for game time in recent months at the struggling Championship side, with Mark Aston trying to find stability within his team as they fight for survival.
Hewitt and Blagbrough now join Sheffield’s relegation rivals for the remainder of the season, with the two clubs just one point above the relegation zone after Roughyeds defeated the Eagles last week.
“We know all about Dave who made an impact when he joined us last year from Saints,” Oldham chairman Chris Hamilton said of Hewitt, who had a loan spell with the club last year.
“He took the opportunity to go full-time at Sheffield and no one can blame him for that. He hasn’t been getting as much game time as he would have liked and he jumped at the chance to come back to us.
“Jack’s full-time training has had to be done around university commitments and he’s really keen to make a fresh start and to be pushing for regular football.
“We welcome both of them into our squad and I would like to thank Sheffield and Mark Aston for helping to facilitate the moves.”
Aston added: “Both are young, upcoming players and need game time to further develop.
“With the loan signings of half-back Stan Robin and forward Thibaut Margalet, they will struggle further to get into the squad and it’s a move that will help them both.
“Whilst we are loaning players to a club we are on level pegging within the league and beat us last week, it’s a move that is beneficial for both clubs.
“We have a good relationship with Oldham and I’d like to thank Chris Hamilton for helping to finalise these deals.”
Aston hasn’t ruled out further additions coming into the squad.
“We are still on the look out to potentially bring some players in and will work up to the deadline at the end of this month to try and do that.”
