Featherstone Rovers release young hooker

FEATHERSTONE ROVERS hooker Jonny Openshaw has left the club without playing a competitive game.

The 23-year-old was on a one-year contract after moving from Rochdale, where he played 13 times, scoring four tries, last season.

With Will Jubb and Connor Jones ahead of him in the Rovers pecking order, he was loaned to Keighley, and played in their 18-14 home League One defeat by former club Swinton last month.

Openshaw spent two seasons at the Lions after signing from Leigh Miners Rangers, with whom he represented England Community Lions at Under 20 level.

But his opportunities were limited due to a knee injury which needed surgery.
