FEATHERSTONE ROVERS are very much on a path to Super League.
After a number of near misses, Rovers look destined for the top flight with the West Yorkshire club extending their winning run in the Championship to 11 games following a 30-0 win over Widnes Vikings last weekend.
In and amongst all the drama, however, Featherstone announced their latest signing as 19-year-old Arama Hau from the Gold Coast Titans until the end of the 2023 season, a talented back-rower who has been selected to both the under-18 Queensland emerging Origin squad and Australian Schoolboys over the last 12 months.
Rovers head coach, Sean Long, has revealed that his connection with former St Helens boss Justin Holbrook – who now coaches the Titans in the NRL – got the deal over the line in front of Super League interest.
“I got in touch with Justin Holbrook and my connection there with him got it over the line,” Long told League Express.
“He had just signed three young lads at the Titans and thought the experience would do Arama good, playing against men in the Championship.
“I think he was going to go to Super League but I got in there with gusto and got him over the line. He’s a young, exciting back-rower. It will only boost our squad which we need as we were down to 16 men today.
“We are going alright, lads want to play for us and everyone is enjoying it and to get someone of his calibre, it’s a good scoop for us. I know he is only young but he is a bit of a beast.”
Long also revealed that Featherstone will have more signings coming in, with Daniel Smith one of those already named.
“We’ve got a couple more coming in, I’m not telling! It’s a long season, there will be injuries and it’s about competition for places.”
