Fonua scores hat-trick for Tigers

Former Hull FC winger Mahe Fonua scored a hat-trick of tries today for Wests Tigers, as they recovered from a 14-0 deficit after 20 minutes to beat the Gold Coast Titans 30-14 in a match played in the country town of Tamworth.

The Titans scored early tries through Anthony Don and Tyrone Peachey, both converted by Michael Gordon, who added a penalty to secure a 14-point margin.

The Tigers then responded with Fonua’s first try on 23 minutes, and they added further tries before the interval by Robert Jennings and Esan Masters, with Marsters adding two goals to give the Tigers a 16-14 lead.

In the second half Jennings added his second try, converted by Marsters to make it 22-14, before Fonua added two more tries to complete his hat-trick.
