FORMER Barrow star Demi Fisher has confirmed her next move by joining York Valkyrie.
The halfback left the Cumbrian club earlier this winter after relocating to Huddersfield.
That left her struggling to commit to the travel involved in staying at the Raiders, with whom she won promotion to Super League in 2023.
Fisher, who in the past has also featured at loose forward and second row, was one of Barrow’s stand-out players last season and York boss Lindsay Anfield was keen to sign her up when she arrived in Yorkshire.
“I’ve known Demi a long time. We’re both Cumbrians and it’s great to be back coaching her,” said Anfield.
“Demi is a skilful and experienced player, has a strong kicking game and will be able to play a number of positions for us. She’s a real team player and we are in a much better place having her in the squad.”
Fisher has been joined at York by former Jamaica rugby union international Jazz Rampton and hooker or winger Izzy Bibby.
Rampton starred in the forwards for London Broncos in the Women’s Southern Championship season, while Bibby has most recently been involved in Army Rugby League, playing alongside Valkyrie centre Manuqalo Komaitai.
She was previously at Huddersfield Giants and is a former member of the England Knights performance squad.
“Jazz is a huge signing for us,” added Anfield. “She’s played a lot of sevens and rugby union in the States.
“She’s got some experience of playing Rugby League with London Broncos, is a talented athlete and has bags of potential. She’s fitted into the squad really well and is clearly adapting quickly to our code.
“Izzy is a dynamic and pacy hooker who is a welcome addition to the Valkyrie group.
“It’s great to finally have Sinead Peach back, and Izzy will really complement her at nine. She’s come in as a really hard worker with a super-positive attitude.”
