Former Hunslet assistant coach returns to his roots at Drighlington

RYAN JACKSON, who has long had strong links with Drighlington, including as a player, is putting plenty into his local club after having left Betfred Championship side Hunslet, where he had been an assistant coach for several years.

Jackson is currently helping coach the Under 6s, for whom one of his sons plays, while another is enjoying his Rugby League at Under 10s.

“That’s what it’s mainly about at that age – enjoyment,” insists ‘Jacko’, who recently teamed up with another former Hunslet man, Gary Thornton, at Rochdale Hornets. “A coach’s role for the younger age group, which is tag rugby, is to develop core skills, including passing and try-scoring.

“It has to be fun while, at the same time, playing Rugby League instils discipline and a wide range of important values that it’s good for youngsters to experience. That’s why I love to be involved and it’s great to contribute.”
