46 minutes ago, Dunbar said:
He was born in New Zealand to a Samoan father and English mother. I would say it is perfectly fine that he is eligible to play for each of these three countries.
Genuine question..
Does anyone know anymore about his "English mum" cos the way it's worded in that article I saw,to me,it looks like its a step mum and not his maternal mum..
"I grew up in New Zealand but I wasn't raised by Kiwis, I was raised by an English woman and my dad is from Samoa so it is hard to pick. I don't really know what I am – I just call myself a human."Strange to say "raised by a English woman" -

here a idea to make the top8 split not a waste of time..
the super 8 playoffs..
the top8 are seeded into 2 groups (1,3,5,7 & 2,4,6,
played on a home & away basis...
league points are not carried over
winner of each group advances to the grand final..
-
Because each club plays 7 fixtures, not 7 fixtures in total in the playoffs!
why does'nt it say that then...
and couldn't that result in it being mathematically impossible for teams to actually reach the grand final???
hull kr finished the season on 26pts last year....even if they win all 7 extra games they still have less points than warrington & hudderfield (41&42) finished the regular season....
-
Can someone clear this up for me. When teams split into their 8s are they then not just finishing their league season off. After this has been completed I thought the top three or four teams then go into a play off.
its clear as mud...
in the RFL document it clearly states that each playoff group will consist of 7 FIXTURES...
to me thats
1v8
2v7
3v6
4v5
semi final x 2
a grand final
thats 7 fixtures...
but....why are league points carried over into "the playoffs"
-
I just think the idea of splitting the league up mid season sounds a bit gimmicky and mad. You can have p and r without it if that's what you want. Not convinced it will add anything, and just seems confusing.
I think that will be my whole contribution to the debate.
Cheers
its not being split up mid season though....
each league will play a full home, away & magic game season....then the top8 play in the super league playoffs,
the bottom4 & championship top4 play in the super league qualifying playoffs
and the bottom 8 championship clubs play in the championship shield...

lol fair enough....i stopped going on the RFL website years ago
-
Did anyone actually bother to read the proposal document?
did everyone have access to it???
-
that clears up loads....so there isn't 7 extra rounds...just 7 FIXTURES that are the play offs...
right i can calmdown down
-
i think if the top 8 went straight to play offs instead of another 7 rounds...then everyone would be 100% behind it...
also im heearing season tickets are gonna be sold in 2 blocks...1 for the regular season then one for the 3x8 season...
-
have the players union commented on the number of games players are gonna have to play?
-
right....so the 3x8 split comes in at the end of the regular season...
top8 is the play offs.....as normal
bottom4 & top4.....is the P&R play offs....i like that.
bottom 8......is kinda like the old divisional playoffs..
i can live with that....

does'nt a "chris joynt voluntary tackle" thread hold the world record for longest ever...lol
-
so.....what happened at the meeting?? was anything decided x

got the calculator out...
general concensus is ESL raking in £26m a year...so....give £17.5m to the 10 ESL clubs @ £1.75m per year....give £8.5m to 12champ clubs @ £700k per year...
or £2m per year & £500k per year....
-
its a separate discussion regarding funding, what I am pointing out is the the current money the SL gets is only enough for 12 clubs (according to the powers that be) if you shrink it to 12 but used the money saved to fund something else (doesnt matter what) then the situation hasnt changed, the number would be 12 but each club would be no better off than when there were 14 clubs....
my point is that if you wanted to impose your plan to free up SL money you would need to cut the SL to ten to have a positive impact on SL.....
cut it to 10 then....
but im calling bull$hit on £1.2m not being enough.....its 75% of the full salary cap paid!
-
I thought the idea was to give this money to SL clubs as stretching that money over 14 leaves clubs short.....
for what you suggest it would be the same for the top 12 as it is now.........
you see,,,thats the issue imo...RUGBY LEAGUE is more than just SUPER LEAGUE...
this is where the RFL needs a backbone and decide to use i bit of the money to try and strengthen the game as a whole and not just the top 12 clubs!
-
at this stage i'll be happy a 12-12-14,three league structure....
and im actually warming to the heatheringtons idea of a ESL bottom 4 v championship top 4 mini comp....
but that requires all the championship to receive funding in some way....obviously the obvious plan would be to divvy up the super league money the 13th & 14th ESL clubs would have received....that would give each championship club around £200k each...thats a start.

I recall widnes v leigh 2nd game of the season with both clubs dreaming of sl around the millenium - near 7000 crowd that was bigger than most premiership ru games that day - where did we go wrong
we crushed ambition...

Second tier RL has no record of TV being interested in giving it any money at all, so it follows there will be no better sponsors and no snowballing.
Second tier RL has gone from attracting 2,405 fans to 1.,020 over 17 years. Take out Fev and crowds will end up averaging 900. Interest is bombing year after year after year.....
Last year 11 of the 14 clubs gave up their independence.
In nearly 50 years of following this fantastic sport I've only seen one snowball which was the SKY contract to create Superleague that rescued top division crowds from 5543 to a high of 9431 whilst gifting the game tens of £Millions of pounds.
It's everything IMVHO.
theres no interest in the 2nd tier from tv (and sponsors, investors & and the drop in attendances) because of the lack on competition,ie lack of movement...clubs have stagnated...most clubs in the championship & champ1 won't have played for 6-7months by the time the new season starts...how the hell can clubs be expected to survive??
if we condense all the leagues down to 10 it will increase the competitiveness of all the leagues....and i believe that will increase attendances, sponsorship levels and encourage investment in lower league clubs cos of the potential to actually have ambition!
-
i struggle to grasp the idea that the sport doesn't generate enough money....when the tv deals alone bring in £130m plus...
i struggle to grasp the idea that super league clubs struggle when between 70-100% of a clubs salary cap is paid for via the sky money....
is the sport dying?? or is the club run by people who can count???
-
clubs will wither and die if we continue to alienate clubs & fans
-
of course if we had a exciting, constructive and competitive league beneath super league then the 23 clubs ( or 30 clubs in my 4 leagues of 10 idea) outside of super league could benefit from their own "cash" tv deal....
