  1. I thought beforehand that an upset might be on the cards.  With so many backs out and so little pace in the team Swinton were bound to be the team finding the gaps late in the game. We were bound to be playing a more conservative game. It was a question of what sort of lead we could build and whether we could defend it.  I think that it is fair to say that we weren't clinical enough during the spells when we were on top.  Win or lose we should be better on Friday.

Well you need to get your house in order... Again

In the stand behind the sticks there was loads of Batley fans with glass bottles smuggled in,one lad with a glass bottle he talked to a steward for five minutes, we waited to see if the steward confiscated the glass bottle.... But he didn't, in fact it looked like he was oblivious to the rules & regulations regarding glass objects on the terraces🤔

Which is a poor do.. For safety🤔

Wasn't there, didn't see it, but you are right to say it shouldn't happen.

I understand the need for plastic drinking vessels, and bottles, for obvious safety reasons! the main problem with the plastic cups is they make your beer/lager flat almost immediately, there must be some alternative that does a better job!

I am sure that you make a fair point that many drinks are not quite the same from plastic receptacles.  Is there a cheap and cheerful alternative?

It could also to do with outside drinking near the pitch, plastic instead of glass, even the bottle bar is plastic bottles, the only place with glass is the Ron Earnshaw Lounge.

Many years ago Roger, within Kevin's time in charge but before the long terrace was demolished, I took a friend to a local derby.  As the tide of the game turned in our favour a young Dewsbury supporter threw a bottle of beer up in the air and over his shoulder. My pal did not see it coming and it knocked him out cold as well as wrecking a pair of very expensive glasses.  I didn't see the end of the match; I was in A and E with my pal.  The bottle, by the way, had been smuggled in.  As you would imagine I very strongly support the use of plastic bottles and plastic glasses in the Ground. This allows safe drinking and a source of valuable revenue.  Imagine if my friend had lost an eye and had sued the club.

Heard from Jimmy Meadows  this morning that both Gledhill and Blake have been training and he thought they had signed. Also Sammy has not trained yet due to the injury he got whilst playing against us.

Blake was mentioned by Linners on a recent video which made me assume that he was back onboard.

Indigogo; Keenan's problem with being a 'utility' player is that he never got a regular game with us at Batley when he first showed. Always a bench man as a filler in, always 3rd choice 2nd row, damaging in the centre(where Lingard gave him the 4 shirt inntgevtrucated season to try and settle him) from a short distance as he's a powerful lad but after 25 yards his pace dies. Also filled in on the wing a few times as Rams fans will remember from his acrobatic try at Bash. If he's to go well for Cougars he'll need to be toughened up and given a run and good game time in the 2nd row. Also, and I think Rams fans would agree, he can go missing in action in patches. That said I did like the lad and his keenness. They say that certain players are a fit for certain clubs, we've had a few, this might be his.

To be fair he was a very handy lad to have on the bench given his versatility.

I'm confused we sign a 33 year-old winger Centre fullback lose a young full back why we not try signing elliot Hall from Bradford

I have had a look at Elliot's twitter account and guess what.....Batley Bulldogs are one of his followers. However, he signed a two year contract at the Bulls and so unless the Bulls release him anyone wanting Elliot would have to pay a transfer fee.

Whoever he is with I hope that he gets the game time to progress his career because ball in hand he is a very talented and entertaining player.

I think there were more tickets sold than people who actually turned out, (300 was mentioned) seemed a great sale on the bars and a fabulous response to buying up the remaining Lifeline Draw tickets. There should have been another lined up to go. Sadly we appear slow on the uptake (an ideal time after GF to sell something to us on the crest of the wave) and not on this alone. I mentioned a few options a couple of weeks ago for efforts through the closed season but there doesn't seem to be a wide view, just a tunnel view of one thing at a time. If the current board are stretched for time ask for help! So BISSA does a monthly contribution, would anybody miss another 5er into the club? Bring back the draw we had during Covid, do it weekly, in fact it could go all year. Boot sponsors, ball sponsors, it's all there to be taken advantage of. Re; financing, it hasn't stopped other clubs.....

Thanks for the update on the concert Phil. It sounds like a success from what you say.  Well done to the club for that.

  10. I think that Kevin has explained some of the reasons for delays with finance being uncertain and, of course, the run to the final.  However, he did say about a month ago that there were some re signings.  JC seems to be the only one mentioned so far and so I guess we will start to find out over the coming week on the heels of the already known, but nice to see confirmed, signing of Hirst.  It was also suggested that the success or otherwise of the "Queen" Concert at the Mount would play a part.  I wondered if anyone from the forum went and did it seem to be a success?

Thought Louis showed some real potential when he played sure he'll do a great job in the Championship for our feeder club

I think that we have lost a good one there.

Great result - enjoy putting one over the Lobbygobblers.

(When you go up to SL will you still deign to play us on Boxing Day?)

As long as you tug your forelock on meeting us BSJ.  Hang on, sorry; that could be as big an ask as us beating Leigh (says me 😉 ).

  13. I stood on the terracing to watch the match as I don't like watching from behind the sticks where Batley fans were being directed. What a great night watching an absorbing match, chin wagging during quiet spells with a Rovers fan and shaking hands at the end of the game.

Our band of supporters were very vocal which also added to the evening.
