  1. I was 'Yorkshire ####' on the way out. I did reply that I was surprised, as scousers are usually much friendlier but he wasn't molified in the slightest.

I also sat next to two Widnes fans in the first half and we had some good craic and another fan across the aisle argued all the game and then came over and shook hands at the end.

  2. On a serious note Gareth Hewer. Been watching RL again for about 4 years. Hewer is ace, he s a ref who actually refs a game. No Bowllux, Hewer is the new Smith for me. Russ was a legend, a smashing junior and colt player who had his career ended by a smashed knee. He got a well deserved career as a ref in Australia. Russell was one of the first refs to learn all the names of the 26 on the pitch at any one time and treated them with respect even though but for injury, he could have been one of them, without bearing bitterness.

Agree with you about Gareth and about Russ.

Nearly twenty years ago when my eldest (Cliff from Liberia) was playing for Cas and District U16s (with Ian Tonks etc), Russ was just starting and refereed all their home fixtures. He was superb and it was almost like having another coach on for both sides as he talked players back into the defensive line and encouraged both teams equally when they made a good play. All this done with the minimum of stoppages and no attempt to push himself to the front.

I wasn't surprised when he reached the top.

  3. Always liked John Holdsworth. Remember being in Bullock Shed when someone shouted 'Your Dad would be ashamed of you for a decision like that' John turned to the crowd and came back 'According to you lot I haven't got one'.

  4. Ive heard the opposite from talking to people at work, all of them turned it off after bout 50 minutes as it was a one sided affair.

I think the result was really a foregone conclusion, had it been the halifax game on sk then, yes i do think that would have made good telly as fax are a top side.

No disrespect to Keighle but that was embarrassing, their defence was woeful at best.

Funny old world isn't it. Nearly everyone I've spoken too who are not Fev fans commented on how much they enjoyed the style of rugby we were playing. The most complimentary were a family of C@s fans.

  5. The last 2 posters that have been posted to download have had the blue Rovers background and when I have tried to print them off all the writing has been blurred. Can we have them like b4 with no background so the poster is full A4 or is there a way of just selecting the poster? Anyone else had problems

I suspect you are simply saving the image off the site and then scaling it up. There is a link at the bottom of the page that says

    Download your own poster here

Click on 'here' and you will get a new window with a pdf file in it.

  6. NOT offically told this so accept it or not -

6th May 2010 is the date for the Toulouse game and it will be on sky!!

    Ash cloud permitting!!

It would certainly make sense Robin. Sky's game for the Thursday has had to be cancelled because Barrow are still in the cup (Widnes may be also). We have no game because Leigh are in the cup and Toulouse have a dead week.

Mind you the fact it makes sense might be the one reason the RFL don't do it.

  7. Worryingly, my dad has just heard on Ridings FM that the game is cancelled

While we know the truth and they have got it wrong, any floating support will believe what they hear and not turn up Thursday. I would of thought now that they are involved with the announcing they would of got their facts right and promoted the game correctly!

Also, who updates the new website as it says cancelled on there as well. It does say in the news section that Keighley have stepped in, but surely it would be better to also explain this in the 'next game' section as well

That part of the site is updated and controlled by the RFL and the club have no way of changing it. Hopefully they will correct this soon.

  8. Because they are part-time and have jobs n families for gods sake. Show a bit of common sense.

Common sense says that if the planes were running they would fly in on Wednesday at the latest. This gives at the most two days (one if they need to recover some sleep having traveled from St Helens to home) at work etc. As this was a Sky game I would have thought funds could be made available to cover any unforseen costs. (The money saved by avoiding a return journey to Rovers later in the season would have gone a long way towards this)

I am quite happy to be playing Keighley and have no axe to grind but I am still surprised at the decision they made. (and at the reaction I got)

  9. is it just me?

There is a good deal to be positive about at rovers at the mo and we are justifyably top. But i was listening to some predictions of slaughter of the french teams yesterday akin to 1815! Yesterday will have taken a lot out of the lads and toulouse can't be treated without respect - as widnes fans will attest.

I've got as many nerves about thursday as i have had about any other game this season.

Does anyone know if the french team has stayed over here or returned 'en france'? And is thursday def on, cos

looking at the flight schedule getting here by plane looks doubtful.

I don't think either DP or the players will take this one lightly. We won in Toulouse last year mainly because their general Nathan Wynn had to be substituted early in the game and then when it looked like we could finish nearly at the top of the league they came over and bloodied our nose at home.

I should imagine they must be staying here otherwise its 15 hours down and 15 hours back for two, possibly three, days in Toulouse.

  10. Not really sure what you are getting at. The X is always bigger than the Y.

The stand will have only been sold to capacity, which has been reached for all of our home games so far (in the South Stand).

When I finally found a place in the South Stand, I commented on how much space there was in the East stand (I think I've got my compass directions right) and would suggest that a good number of your 2000+ under capacity were in the seated areas. I appreciate your attempt to support the officials at your club but on this occasion they got it very wrong and 100% of the Wires' fans (and stewards) that I spoke to agreed.

The only problem I would see to opening the West stand was that I would have missed out on some excellent craic with your fans.

  11. With all our discussions about resting players from the Warrington game it is interesting to note that tonight Toulouse played 14 of the 17 squad that beat Widnes and the other three have all featured during the last three weeks. They obviously do not feel that they need to rest anyone before playing us!

  12. Could have been a banana skin last night. It wasn't the games against Leigh and Widnes that cost us the title last year it was a loss to 'run of the mill' York City Knights when all the first team squad players were given the weekend off.

The team last night didn't look as strong without Zak, Jodie, Sam, Jon and whichever of the back row forwards is out of favour at the time, but were certainly still the better team.

  13. What was our team tonight?

    1. Tom Carr

    2. Rob Kirk

    3. Larsen Marabe

    4. Aaron Lyons

    5. Davi Garahan

    6. Matthew Johnson

    7. Adam Jones

    20. Tom Lynch

    27. Aaron Dobek

    10. Nial Knight

    11. Charlie Tosh

    12. Joe Topping

    14. Danny Allen

    Subs

    14. Adam Curtis

    15. Darren Bryan

    16. Mufaro Muvududu

    17. Dave Nurse

  14. This happened at Barrow didn't it, with Barrow getting just a penalty.

The law itslef in the rulebook doesn't get into the doubt/no doubt debate. It says...

If a player fouls an opponent who is touching down for a try, a penalty kick at goal shall be taken from in

front of the goal posts after the attempt to convert the try.

I think we've got to look at it & think, how would we feel if that went against us? The answer is aggrieved. But that's rugby, we take the lucky calls and the rum ones. It hardly mattered in a game we won convincingly.

Now, the serious stuff. How much stick did that wage thieving ex-scrum half of ours get?

I think this refers to the chance of an eight point try where the try is awarded, then the conversion is taken and then the penalty. The last I saw was when a chasing player dropped with both knees on the player that had just scored.
