Question
Did the knock on from the kick off just tip the mental scales to Wires advantage from that very first second?
I don't think so. After all Leeds crossed the Warrington line a few minutes later.

To be fair to Silverwood he was on the opposite side to Mathers and so maybe it appeared to come off the leeds player but the linesman has no such excuse, I was in the top tier 5 rows from the back and as Riley broke away I said he was offside but the whistle never came.
As for the colour clash I can't say I really noticed it at all.
We were sat above the Royal Box and I said he must be offside, but I wasn't sure until I saw the tv replay on Sunday morning. It was a terrible decision. Whether it cost Leeds the game who knows. For me the loss of Peacock cost Leeds the game - he is an imense player and his loss was devastating for Leeds. Having said that he's no spring chicken and they should really be looking at a replacement.

Didn't Leeds and Wire share the same colours in the 1961 Championship Final at Odsal. The difference then Warrington always had predominately white shirt ( broadish primrose band with narrower blue bands) and White shorts. Leeds I think traditional blue shirt with broad amber and narrow hoops and all blue shorts. My black and white photo images of that tie show I think it worked well giving plenty of contrast which was sadly missing Saturday.
The first time I saw Leeds play live was at Headingley on Boxing Day 1960, Leeds played in blue shirts with an amber V, the strip for the 1961 Championship final reverted to the former blue shirt with the broad and narrow stripe and it was reported that the strip had been presented to the side by Arthur Clues the former Leeds and Hunslet Aussie star who in those days ran a sports outfitters on Merrion Street in Leeds.
The first time I saw Warrington play was the following season at Belle Vue and they played in white shirts with a primrose and blue band (Bevan scored)

Best bits....
1 - Trojan taking an hour to get off the motorway at Stanmore
We were still there in plenty of time - left at 8-00 am got to problem slip road at 11-30 am. We were in Wok & Roe as mentioned before by 1-00 pm with plenty of time for fish and taties.
I saw the price of drinks inside the ground - that's why I didn't buy any.
TBH I was a bit unimpressed by the new Wembley - it was better than I remember the old Wembley, but IMO not as good as Old Trafford.
Given that we were delayed, and had to park about a mile from Stanmore tube station I was impressed by London's fantastic transport system. The game finished at 4-30, we were on our way back north by 5-30, and home before 9-00.

I don't buy into this Yorkshire v Lancashire thing.
I'm the same as Old Frightful, anybody but Leeds as long as it's not Hull KR. No offence to anybody, it just comes with the territory.
I remember being like that about Leeds. I remember wanting Saints to win in 1978, and Widnes in 1977. I wanted Saints to beat Leeds in the semi at Huddersfield where Sinfield kicked the goal from the touchline to tie the scores. I also am pretty anti Hull KR, except in 1986 when they played C*s.
I wanted the Bulls to win in both Leeds's last finals against them and Hull to win in 2005. But in 2007 because of a Saints fan at work who was so arrogant about what Saints would and wouldn't do, I went to OT and cheered for Leeds. (and texted him afterwards ) I'd never describe myself as a Leeds fan, but if they're playing the likes of Wire, or the Pies, or C*s or Hull KR then I want them to win.

Corrine Bailey Rae (again)

I disagree.
I've always been happy for you to lose.
I've disliked Wire ever since Murphy screwed us in 1974. TBH I was delighted when they lost to Widnes the folllowing year. I loved it when Lydon dropped the long distance goal at Maine Road too. There's no doubt they were the best side yesterday, but I thought the Giants were robbed last season.
-
After yesterday I think Wire can do it and pull off a cup and SL double!
Before yesterday I didn't think we were quite ready for beating a big club like Leeds in such a convincing manner. I thought we may pip it and have a few iffy decisions to help us along the way, but to destroy Leeds and totally blow them off the park like Wire did makes me confident of winning the double.
Next week may well be the turning point. Can Briers and co backup after a weekend on the lash?? We need a big score against Quins to ensure 2nd place because Saints will want to hammer Cas in their final game at Knowsley Rd. But if Wire play like the level they did yesterday they can beat anyone, even Saints!
Thoughts?
Hopefully not if only to shut you up. C'mon the pies (cant' believe I've just said that)

After watching yesterdays cup final(congrats to the wire by the way, your team was superb and by far the better team) i can't help wondering why warrington would want to sign a 32 year old aussie looking for a pension pay off rather than keep a 26 year old richie mathers ? Who imho was the lance todd winner by a country mile.Any thoughts ?
I thought he kept them in the game early doors. And it wasn't his fault that his try was disallowed.
-
Is it the same lot as counted the crowds at the Shay t'other week??
No I think they may have borrowed the famous Rugby Union calculator
-
Nope. We had to send them an e-mail and your reg. number.
And the rest of us?
-
Not one mention of Wakefield, kick them out of Super League!
I saw some Wakey ones and missed them out on my original post - sorry.
-
That one always puzzles us.
We don't like cod.
No but you sold it to the rest of the country before the Cod War - with exception of the West Riding, where we wouldn't be paid to eat cod.
-
You can rest well tonight knowing that there were at least half a dozen Quins shirts on show in Block 141
lower tier near the Press Box. Saw a couple wearing Crusaders shirts in Wembley Way afterwards.
Didnt think overall though there were as many neutrals as in previous years.
Main venue for viewing tops before venturing down Wembley Way was Wok & Roe Chippy, Haddock and Chips for a fiver, not bad I thought. However, that could explain the number of Codheads I saw
-
II wanted neither team to win because i) it's Leeds, ii) mouthy Wires on TRL and on the pitch. But hand on heart I just wanted a close game, so when one team took a huge lead, I wanted the gap to close. The overall winning side deserved it though, which was a big plus.
I wanted Leeds to win. i) for the reason highlighted & ii) because I'm from Leeds.
I used to hate Leeds, but since we no longer play them on a regular basis I've mellowed a little.
I suppose based on Maslow I could have a hierarchy of hate.
1. Cas
2. Cas
3 Cas
4 Wire
5 Pies
6 Saints
I hate the rest about equally plus of course Radio Leeds for their one eyed Rhinos first, SL teams second, rest nowhere policy.

Who plans these things? The slip road off the M1 joins a dual carriageway, which narrows to single carriageway and then a roundabout - already a recipe for a jam. But there were also temporary lights - no one working mind. And on the way back they'd gone. Event at Wembley, bottlneck, I know let's dig the road up. Do they do it deliberately?
-
...I saw loads of Hull tops, a smattering of Hull KR, a few Bulls, Wigan, Saints and Salford - quite a few Giants, quite a few Cas. I didn't see any Crusaders or Harlequins, which given that it was played in London was a bit odd.
Non SL clubs - well me (although I was wearing blue and yellow to blend in ) Fev, Fev Lions, Cougars, and quite a few from 'Fax, plus one from Siddal - that's the lot from non SL.
-
As a Leeds fan, I just made it to the final hooter, but I was tempted to leave long before then
I left on the hooter too. We were sat in the tier that Dave Woods called "the ring of indifference" courtesy of Carnegie (my lad's mate works there - he was at Watford cheering on LUFC - gave us the tickets)
I'm not a Leeds fan (no! ) but I was cheering for them.
I wasn't keen on the old Wembley, I reckon this one's not much better - it'll be another slum in 20/30 years.
-
which season did widnes have their 9 points deducted for going into administration? because rule three is " No insolvency event has occurred during the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons."
But didn't the insolvency occur in 2007 immediately after C*s beat them at Headingley?

I'm not from Featherstone. I'm from Morley. My mother's family are from the Featherstone area, and when I was a kid and the results were given out on Grandstand, she would always remark on the fact.
I was a Wakey fan from being about 14 to being 33. And then I switched.
For the reasons above Fev were always my second team. I went to Wembley with them in 1973.
But in 1980 I switched.
There've been some ups (winning at Wembley in '83, beating Halifax with 11 mean in 1991) and downs (being relegated to the third tier) but I've never regretted it. For me Fev represent what Rugby League is about. Fighting against the odds and the powers that be in order to be successful. The epitome of Rugby League - those in power said "you can't do that" but Rugby League (and Featherstone Rovers) have done.
It was great last Sunday. I'll be away a week on Thursday, but I'm sure I'll find a way of getting the result.
Good luck to Fev.

It was thirty years ago today (well Wednesday really) that Fulham played Wigan at Craven Cottage. They've and the RFL have had thirty years trying to establish the game in Greater London. Given that the game was 85 years old at the time, that's a third of the life of the game given over these attempts.
Surely it's time to pack it in. The Londoners aren't interested. At one time I thought that there must be enough ex pat Lankys, Yorkies, Aussies and Kiwis to support a RL club in London. But if after thirty years the best they can offer is 2/3k out of a 10m. population then it's time to pack it in.
Lets face it Londoners are not that interested in Rugby of either code - most of the top Union clubs have moved away from London, to Watford or Reading. The Stoop itself is not exactly convenient for away supporters either, most of whom will be coming from the North.
Unless you have a sugar daddy willing to pour millions in for years, there's no way that top down expansion will work. Celtic Crusaders proved that.
I'm very in favour of expansion. But by the London Skolars and South Wales Scorpions route. Develop the game at grass roots, build a team of local players. That's the way to expand.

Instead of Amersham, head for Aylesbury, Princes Risboro, High Wycombe, or similar on the Chiltern line, for a train to Wembley Stadium Station.
I'll be in the Green Man, Aylesbury Market sq, less than a 5 min walk to the station for pre-train (12:33 dep, arrive 13:25) drinkies.
2 real ales, food, stunning landlady, perfect venue....
Oh yeah, Ben Westwood.
How much from Aylesbury on the train, thinking of driving to Northolt.

Saw this in the Letters Section of Private Eye today, thought it might appeal to some.....
"Sir, So Rupert Murdoch is claiming that he owns the "SKY" in "SKYPE". One wonders whether he is preparing a similar claim of ownership over the relevant section of the word "Scunthorpe".
I was dying to try this out with the people behind the Sky stand in the Arndale, but failed to attract their attention.
Personally I wondered whether he would lay claim to part of the word "Penistone" as being more appropriate.

Spoke to several of them at half time. They were strongly under the impression that there is something radically wrong behind the scenes involving wages.
On paper they should have given us a better game than they did, but that is not taking anything away from our performance.
We performed well. But as far as tackling went they appeared to be just going through the motions. Something definitely wrong somewhere at Barrow. They owed their fans a better perfomance than they produced today.

Perhaps this would have solved the colour clash problem?
