  1. For those who did not watch the Wests Tigers vs Sydney Roosters final, Gareth Ellis went over the Roosters try line with the ball three times in the first 13 minutes, but did not get a try awarded. Then a few minutes later he was put on report for a high tackle

Is it going to be a church do for you two or a simple registry office affair?

Seriously, you're posting about this fella like a bloody stalker!

The other English player, lock/loose forward Chris Heighington, had an outstanding game. He may have played his way into the England 17 for the Four Nations

He's Australian. From Central Coast NSW in fact.

Happens to be a dual-passport holder which would allow him to qualify for England if he so chose to do (in other words, if he wanted to play international RL and didn't make a Roos squad).

  2. All the other commentators on Channel 9 who were assigned to the Wests Tigers vs Gold Coast Titans telecast agreed that with Gould that the Sheens comment was a great compliment to Gareth Ellis.

No comment yet on this revelation from Andrew Voss and those commentating the Brisbane vs Canberra game.

The attention given to the Sheens comment may be part of a pre-publicity campaign for the upcoming Four Nations. Gareth Ellis has been a little in the shadow of the Hollywood-sponsored glamour boy Sam Burgess. Bringing Gareth out of Sam's shadow will increase interest in the England team among the Australian public.

Ffs, are you really this bored?

  3. I am a Sydney Roosters fan. So I know what I am talking about

All you've proven with the diatribe below is that you love good juicy gossip regardless.

The first thing that strict disciplinarian coach Brian Smith demanded before he arrived at Bondi Junction was that the club get rid of Willy Mason.

If you really want to know what Willy Mason is like off the pitch, have a chat with the Roosters Brad Fittler, Mitchell Pearce or Nate Myles, or the former Canterbury Bulldogs team members who travelled to an ill fated weekend at Coffs Harbour a few years ago, before you start your ignorant abuse of others about Willy Mason.

  4. With the London Olympics only two years away I wondered how the Rugby Sevens side will be chosen.

Do players have to be regfistered with a RU club or is anyone eligible for selection?

    Who will select the squad?

Most importantly, will RL players (and anyone else) be eligible for selection?

A genuine question BTW - I have no idea what the answers are.

Its rugby union sevens so yes, they'd have to have been playing rugby union.

For how long they will have to have played hasn't been established yet as its still some time away.

  5. IMO football as sorted it hooligans out Not saying it does not go on but with cctv at all grounds its moved elswere and thats not football problem

    Far from it.

If soccer (I take you mean Brit or English soccer) had "sorted its hooligans out", there'd be no more trouble on match day, no need for expensive extra police security or even segregation.

Simply shoving it under the carpet doesn't make the problem go away.

  6. I only hope the RFL and Wembley don't go down the road of banning booze and making fans sit in seperate stands because of a few minor incidents.

They wouldn't do that. A large part of revenue on match day comes from the bars and food stalls.

What could follow however is that no grog permitted to be brought in to the stands. This makes sense and works.

  7. I was near what happened and what I could see, for what was pretty much the whole game before it kicked off, was a core of about 6 Leeds fans who seemed to spend their time yelling abuse at the Warrington fans, throwing obscene gestures and generally behaving like a group of yobs

Maybe they thought it was a soccer match?

    What a pack of buttnuggets.

  8. I haven't forgotten. You haven't grasped my point. Whenever you lowball internationals by holding them in second rate venues ( and doing little promotional expenditure) you get second rate crowds

When you put them in prestige stadia people -- who include soft core fans of rugby league --- take them more seriously

All very well in theory. If the birthplace of the sport isn't "prestigious" enough for you however . . .

The other factor is the soft core southern audience for rugby league. A huge percentage of the crowds for internationals at Wembley are from the south of England. They won't travel north, while the hard core northern fans will travel south to Wembley. Look at the figures I posted and try to digest them. Wembley outscored even a prestigious northern venue like Old Trafford every year, while Old Trafford got bigger crowds than Elland Road

You may as well go back to the forties and fifties if you're going to apply comparisons like that.

Only Nigel Wood and you don't seem to grasp this

If you think the stadia used are the reason for poor international crowds then its you who is missing the trick. Expectancy and who is on the field have a lot more of an effect on numbers than any of this.

  9. I know, but there seemed to be a few 'blocks' of empty seats. There wasn't a single section that didn't have some empty red seats in it, and to be honest you don't normally see that at events at Wembley like the FA Cup final (apart from segregation purposes of course).

There seemed to be such a demand for this game that it's a shame some couldn't make it on the day when so many wanted to.

The premium level of a large stadium is the hardest to ensure filling.

As for early leavers, they bug me to no end. They're not exclusive to any one sport. Extremely annoying trying to watch a match when there is a bunch walking across you ten minutes from the end. Can't stop them. Not your fault if they are like that. If a match gets in the way of their wanting an early beer or the futility of trying to avoid traffic.
