The joke is you can't have a world record for an attendance in a league that only covers one geographical area. Plus its a pastiche of sports promotional writing. Plus a self-deprecating nod to rugby league's inability to expand. And slight absurd. If its a dig at something specific I'm not aware of it, but it could be that too.
It's not the best joke ever written but hope that helps.

Must be our famous northern sense of humour that means half of people don’t get an ironic “world record” joke…
(Quite a good joke too in my opinion)
-
So when they said “Waist and below”, people misunderstood, because in fact they meant something else, which they are going to decide on in conjunction with players, coaches etc. Naughty everyone for taking “waist and below” to mean “waist and below”

I can see him heading (back) to Leigh in a year for a fresh challenge.

I think the rule should be chest or below. It could be compulsory that kits have a band from armpit to armpit indicating the acceptable tackle line; it wouldn’t be perfect but make it easier to ref. That would reduce head contact but also not rule out body tackles forcing people to go so low there are more neck injuries. I think both sports should reduce the number of subs to reduce the collision emphasis. There should be emphasis in training on neck strengthening to reduce whiplash or neck injury. It still find it hard to believe that an effective hard guard that falls short of being a helmet couldn’t be invented.

The only way the RFL and RFU would be jointly involved in a proceeding would be if a player (or players) who had played both codes sued both bodies as jointly liable. Which isn’t impossible.
Not wearing a head guard wouldn’t weaken the case much, not least because they don’t think head guards make much difference with concussion injuries or any to whiplash.

It's easy to say "it's okay" but.....
There are lots of people who aren't RL fans who are seeing it as a big turn off
Reputational damage matters
I don’t really buy that that many people really like, “Aww I’d love rugby league but in the group stages in the World Cup there were blowouts, soooo”
-
The format's perfect.
From now on, bar Australia and New Zealand in the QFs, any team could win or slip up in any of the games en route to the final.
The lower sides are subject to blow outs but its partly the nature of the sport; if you are outgunned and the heads go down its tough to keep the scores tight. But it's okay!

I 100% agree with needing more international RL

absolutely loving this World Cup?
Having had so little international RL am loving seeing the fresh teams, players and match ups. I'm not remotely bothered about attendances/growing the game/the same old usual complaints. It's good bloody stuff, the teams are making a massive effort and putting on a great spectacle. I'm so excited about the semis and final and just pray to the holy baby Jesus we get there
That's it.

France underwhelmed a bit v Greece, but could push Samoa close although I think the latter will be better for having played together. I'm going to say 28 - 16 Samoa.
-
Samoa have some very good players but the reality is they've barely played in 3 years, most of these guys are untested at international level and together and there's some talent in that England team. I think it's 50/50 at best, if anything I think England have the slight edge on paper.

Seems pretty clear to me he hasn’t done enough coaching to make a proper assessment

If the reason he's leaving the Wolves is because Powell stopped him leaving training early to run his business, then I'm with Powell on this.
It's 2022, Mike Cooper (he/she/her/him/it/they) should be allowed to work from home

I didn't rate Dudson when he was at Wigan (as a Wigan fan) but he got loads better at Salford and has always seemed solid to me at Cats; not spectacular but does the job and can make the odd impact play.

I can’t explain it any better
I mean if it’s not your sense of humour, that’s fine, it’s a very subjective thing. But that’s the joke anyway, as far as I can make out.
